Ashleigh replied, flashing a light little sly grin and her teeth, before standing slowly, looking him over with a minor sigh.

" Your going to need at least another two days to heal up."

Darryn gave her a grin but then frowned deeply, looking at his wound with disdain.

"Whoever said that instant gratification was a horrible development needs to be shot." He glanced at her. "I don't know about you but I like it."

Nodding, Ashleigh silently agreed as she watched her power flicker and go out.

Sighing, Ashleigh took a gentle hold of Darryn, as it was dark enough even a vampire wouldn't see, slowly walking the steps she knew by heart towards her torches and gas lanterns.

Darryn blinked rapidly in an almost shock as he was taken up and through the dark. The man ran straight into the counter the first time with a grunt.

"Power outage? This really is out in the sticks, huh?"

" more likely the lines broke... As their was a blizzard going outside, it'll be going for at least a little bit... Two or three weeks.. it's not that bad, it happens frequently in the winter months."

"SNOW!" Suddenly he recalled the blurry coldness. He knocked something off with a crash. He thought about it for a minute. The woman pulled him out of the snow. The snow he was in because....

ashleigh glanced back, Darryn in the darkness, confused.

" Yes, a blizzard has lots of snow..."

Darryn pulled his hand away to gesture with his words.

"Uh. You've got to be a little patient. Your dazzling beauty blasted my short term memory into little fuzzy bits." Darryn ran into a doorframe head first.

Without much effort, ashleigh reclaimed his hand and jerked him away from hazards.

" Now now, stop being a smart butt, and stick with me, or you very well could fall prey to traps in the floor."

Darryn didn't say anything to that one. Oh, a castle. Whodathunkit? The man looked around as the light flickered on.

"So... you live in a castle. By yourself. In the middle of nowhere." He exhaled thoughtfully.

"Shunned or shunning? Or are you just some morbid crazy chick?"

Ashleigh replied simply in the dreary dim light of the fire, walking on letting his hand fall now that he could see slightly, wondering on to light more torches and lanterns.

Darryn began to pick up almost everything he could carry, lighting it all.

"Oh, I know how that goes. Fun fun fun." He lit the lantern which he perched precariously atop all of the others, a few torches gripped somehow or another. Talk about a walking fire hazard.

Darryn didn't even hesitate as he set one lantern down.

"Trail of bread crumbs. I would hate to get lost in your castle. Then I would have to jump out the window. And that's throwing me to the wolves." Pun intended, of course.

Darryn did follow, though he was still placing little things down along the way, a torch here and a lantern there. At least he did until he was holding only an oil lamp.

"So... How high does the snow get?" That's really all there was to say.

" It's covered the entire castle before.... Considering that the entire castle is carved from one of the mountain sides, and blends in... It typically is covered in the deepest parts of winter....."

"Brings a whole new meaning to 'little hole in the ground' sort of place." Darryn suddenly had a thought.

She replied simply, not pointing out she'd opened three or four secret pannels.

Darryn scrunched his nose up.

"That makes even less sense. Why would the main part of the house that people could get into be completely safe and the parts that only you can get to be dangerous? That's like sleeping on spikes."

" the main part of the house isn't what I typically inhibit, nor any other previous owner... Keep where I live safe, who cares about the main house... and the main house has traps, simply have to turn them on."

Ashleigh answered vaguely, not a fan of her history, smiling as she soon came upon her chambers, wondering inside to light the two torches on each side of her four post canopy bed.

"Over the river and through the woods." Darryn's answer was just as vague, though maybe not for the exact same reasons. When he entered the room, he ran his hand along the smooth bedpost.

Darryn (partly out of fear for his life) held up his hands and took two huge steps backward.

"Hey, take it easy. I was just commenting about the craftsmanship. Normally you don't find sturdy quality in a more contemporary style. They are all boxy or the grain gives way to weakness."

" sorry, bad luck with men."

she explained simply, looking to the snow covered window and wincing.

" Well, it's already covering the fifth floor..."

Darryn just gave a joking wave.

"Don't worry about it. I have bad luck with men too." The man walked over to the window, looking at the solid sheet of white.

"That's not so horrible. I can walk around in your room whenever I want without turning to a smoldering pile of ash."

Darryn tilted his head to one side and then the other.

"I can't decide if that is a good thing or not." The man walked over to her dresser, leaning over and looking at the little trinkets atop it.

"Mmm..." Darryn was set on examining a little box with a moon painted on the lid. Very carefully he reached out to touch it (simply on impulse). His fingertip drifted over the brushstrokes, but then his fingernail caught a tiny, almost imperceptible trigger. He stood a little straighter as the box lid opened slowly to a little ballerina and wolf twirling to the background of song.

Darryn watched her go, having one of those feeling where you know that you did something wrong even if you aren't sure what it was. The man kind of just stood there, not wanting to follow her at first. But then he did.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to..." Mean to what? Nearly die in your front yard? Trigger the memory box? Ruin your week?

Darryn followed along, hopping from one circular tile to the next.

"Well, now I know the secret to a woman's heart: band aids. Lots and lots of band aids." He grinned at her lightly, her somber mood not dampening him so much.

Darryn was suddenly muted. He was discovering that Ashleigh had this amazing talent for absolutely murdering conversation.
