If Looks Could Kill

Ashleigh slowly stood, wiping off her face, brushing the sand from her hair.

" I'll not bother you anymore... I'll help you leave my house whenever you'd like... your not a captive to me... you were just company... I appreciate you time, and patience... I'll help you with whatever I can."

Ashleigh was struggling to fight back the waves of hurt. It was kind of pathetic how he could instantly wound her.

Taking a deep breath, she tried to hide the fact she was crying as she looked up at him.

" Shall we head back now?"

Darryn looked up at her. His eyes were drawn to the little shiny lines that couldn't quite be hidden. And then he jerked both his head and his eyes away.

"No, just leave me here." The man didn't seem to care about how the sun was coming. As pathetic as it was to say, his feelings were hurt. He actually bit down on his knuckles, watching the blood run down. This was the very last thing he thought that he was going to have to deal with.

"Like Chicken."

Ashleigh looked him over, shaking her head slowly.

" No... I care too much to do that. I'm sorry."

She said gently, taking them both back to her house without a word, wiping the tears from her face.

" I'll help you to where ever else you'd like."

Darryn shook his head. He gave a simple answer as he picked at the teeth marks on his knuckles.

"Bed." he didn't feel like much else.

Ashleigh nodded, and went to take his hand to show him to his room, and then stopped, cursing herself, pulling her hands back to hold her dress as she silently wondered the halls back to the oak room she'd since had liberties taken to arrange more for his comfort, picking up Skye as he came down the hall, crying into the cubs fur as she turned from Darryn, murmuring a soft ' goodnight'.

Darryn stayed there on his bed. Actually, the man didn't even come out later for dinner. And then he didn't come out in the morning. At least for right now, the man was actually NOT EATING. His thoughts were rather dark as he contemplated exactly what he would ask for, how to leave. But now he couldn't go to Cythera. What was he supposed to do now?

Ashleigh brought in lunch when she noticed him missing, looking him over, swallowing slowly.

" I'm sorry.... I never meant to upset you, or cause miss understanding... I just thought you were ... more interested in me so I wanted to be sure... I'm glad you clarified... I'm sorry I read too much into it."

Ashleigh purred softly, setting the tray down on his bed, skye on her heels.

" Call when your sure what you want, I'll be there to arrange it."

Darryn did something that he actually had never done. he had even told her so. He turned down the food. Even more than that, he flipped the tray over on to the floor.

"No. I shouldn't have tried to be anything than a light-hearted jester - God forbid I actually think through more than my dick."

Ashleigh looked at him, taken back, and let her eyes run over him.

" ... I've been hurt, alot. In more ways then one. I'm sorry I was checking to make sure you were serious. I'm sorry I wanted to know if my heart was about to get ripped to pieces, or if you wanted me for a little bit more."

Ashleigh said softly, the pain clear in her voice as she looked from him now, to the food on the floor.

" I'm sorry I was trying to care. I'm sorry I let myself think there was a man worth beign around."

She said, moving to carefully start cleaning the mess.

Darryn just looked down at her. Normally he would have offered to help, but... Well, he was busy feeling miserable about himself. However, he was starting to get a tiny inkling, a little sliver of a thought as to what had happened.

"You thought I was joking." The statement left as it was said a lot - what he had been thinking, what he was starting to realize that she had been saying. Still, his feelings had been slammed against the ground, but they had yet to bounce. Darryn shook his head, standing up and walking past her.

"I'm sorry for being just another person to hate. I'll leave." And he did. The man actually straight up transported himself out onto the snow outside, which said something seeing as he hated it so much.

Ashleigh reached for him as he was transporting, resulting in her being brought out in the snow too, and she flinched as the falling flakes beat her face, wrapping her fingers about his, reappearing in her room as she actually stripped down infront of him. She was freaking cold suddenly ( Which normally didn't bother her, but she had been wearing partly damp clothes when this had all happened) .

Looking to Darryn, she slowed in her dressing process.

" I still care. Stop doing rash things like that."

With that, she finished changing.... Perhaps they were a bit mroe even now, considering she had now just changed completely infront of him.

Darryn found that his eyes were drawn to her. Like... a sort of curiosity. But as she looked up again, he averted his gaze. Partially because he felt like vomiting. Part because he had hurt feelings. Part because he was cold. But mostly because he still cared too and he wanted to turn that off. Bleeding hearts had no place amongst vampires. He found he had a grand total of zero motivation to say anything as he sat back down on the bed.

Ashleigh watched him set down on her bed, eyebrow raising slowly as she slowly moved towards him, looking him over, and then looking to her feet, and the moved to kiss him softly.

" I'm sorry I care... I already went that far. I'll work on that, but for now, I do care, so stop scaring me like that."

At the comment about her caring, he looked her dead in the eye, his face filled with a dark emotion and he twisted his own previous words into something awful.

"I can fix that." Darryn turned his head to the side, dodging the kiss.

"I don't feel like playing games right now." He knew that his words could easily be hurtful, but he still couldn't stop them from spilling out. It was a self-preservation sort of instinct.

Ashleigh still let her lips fall upon his cheek as she slowly pulled back.

" I won't stop caring on a dime.... and I'm not playing games."

Ashleigh replied as she looked him over.

" That's why I asked if you were(not as interested). I wanted to know if I was something more then a conquest. I've been hurt a million times. I didn't ask to hurt you. I asked to keep myself from getting hurt."

Darryn's eyes shifted to her now, frown still pulling at his lips.

"How can you expect a truthful answer from a question like that? A player will lie to get his way, a pleaser will lie to warm what your ears, a heart will lie to protect itself. But then there are the altruists, the only people that cause the problem. They will tell the truth, but you can never tell who is one. How could you ever expect an honest answer?"

Ashleigh might as well have gagged Darryn or smacked him or something. That one stopped him dead in his tracks. The man looked at her with a questioning eye but then threw his gaze away again. He was silent.

It took Darryn a minute or so before he could bring himself to say anything. The man flicked a little clump of snow off of his pantleg.

"You have a nice room."

Ashleigh smiled as she moved towards her closet and pulled out some clothes, handing them to him carefully, before returning to resting upon her bed.

The man took the clothes, peeling off the soggy pants and pulling on the pants and shirt he was offered.

"Thank you." Male clothes even in her closet. There was a vague irony to that.

she purred faintly, knowing they both got hurt.

Darryn looked at her and gave a half-hearted smile. He was getting awfully close to the bounce.

Darryn finally gave a real smile and then kissed her back.

Suddenly he wasn't quite so upset. It didn't seem like she was that angry... So maybe it was time for certain things.

"Do you think... I could have something to eat?"

she teased, moving to rummage through the cabinets and fridge none the less.

" How hungry are you sweetie?"

Ashleigh winced after the endearment slipped, feeling bashful.

Darryn didn't even notice it, to tell the truth.

"Well then I'll have that too." He gave her a lopsided grin.

"And I'm pretty hungry." Modestly speaking, of course.

She purred, pulling some more out as she worked on dinner, and then made some Bloody Marys (Literally) as she served the chicken and pasta dish to him, along with the large glass.
