A thief in the night, as he were. He slid into my bedroom window, where I sat in my delicate negligee in a pale pink color. The lace was tickling my thighs as a I stood up slowly, unable to stop myself. This was how it always went.

I always walked into that embrace I should not trust. Those piercing crimson eyes always set my stomach to turning as I would feel the hands upon my skin. I could feel the strength he held back. There was little hesitation there as I would take a small tiny little breath before he would bite into my wrist.

Well, he had bitten my neck the very first time, but after words it was the wrist. You could hide your wrist from prying eyes. You could keep your secrets hidden from the world. I do not even know this manÂ’s name, nor where he comes from, yet every night he graces my room. He takes of me, and rewards me in amazing ways. We both win.

The next morning I wake, and go to school, or work, and then I all begins again. Until this day of change.

We all learn of the dark ages, of the crusades, of roman, Cleopatra, Columbus, King Henry, Â… we all learned our history in school. But when they told me the dark ages were coming again.. When this man in black told me I was no longer safe, I made a grave mistake. I laughed in this manÂ’s face and asked him if heÂ’d lost his mind. I asked him how much he took to drink. I made the dreaded mistake of making a mockery of his generous warning. This is why I sit here now. Instead of protected and hidden where he would have taken me that night.

I am bleeding, I can not move. My heart beak I know to be weakening. I will soon perish. What will become of this wondrous world?

Twenty five year old Naomi had no idea as she brushed back her bloody read hair from her face and coughed who lifted her. Her scent drew that stranger back. You were his food, and his lay. In vampire terms, you were easily labeled his mate . Not that this mattered as he lifted the dying little human girl into his arms. He even fed her. And bandaged her too, but otherwise, he left her to heal on her own. The stranger seemed to be struggling. SheÂ’d poked at the only Elder in all of Greenland. Darling little girl, do you have any idea of the world you living in?

The room here was currently only dimly lit by a lamp with a heavy shade. It was the room off to the right of the one the girl was in. The room was open, and the style was sleek. Either the inhabitant was minimalistic, or this particular place didn't have an inhabitant.

((I would like to note that I actually already had these links, though I had no idea what I was going to use them for. Convenient, eh?

Room, view one:

http://www.digsdigs.com/photos/apartmen ... 376.jpg

Room, view from other side:

http://www.digsdigs.com/photos/apartmen ... 380.jpg ))

At the moment, in the dark corner of the room, there was a figure standing and peering out into the night through the open window. He was a little over six feet tall and lean but muscular at the same time. It was a neither graceful nor stocky. It was somewhere in between. His hair was a little longer, falling just below his ears in casual curls. It was the color of light ash, not quite brown, but not really blonde either.

Currently, he was wearing black jeans and a loose black sweater. It had been a little chilly out recently. It was fall, so that wasn't any more surprising than was the constant state of drizzling outside. However, as he was inside right now, the man had pushed his sleeves up to his elbows, and you could see poking out just a little bit of the tattoo that was under his shirt. Truthfully, it covered the left half of his torso. It was a tribal thing from eons ago, back when he had been human. What could you do?

((This design, except black:

http://hohaeng.com/wp-content/uploads/2 ... e-0.gif

And the design is made of patterns like this:

Right now, his brow was drawn together as he listened intently to the woman's breathing into the other room. Hunter (yeah, yeah, insert joke here) had never liked making life or death decisions.

Naomi forced herself to sit up in the room she was laying in right now. Her hand moved to her stomach, ignoring the way it turned about ever so slightly. She even managed to stand up after a few moments work. The last thing she remembered was that paper she was writing on and then something.. someone had lifted her up... This must be that person's home, logically... or she had been dumped here. What did the newly graduated Dr care?

Either way, Naomi checked herself over in the dark, and then found herself alright to be moving about, standing slowly, hands skittering over the clothing covering her. It was a barely there gown that honestly had to be on her just for looks or something. This place had a draft. This would be why she reached and tugged the sheet about her shoulders. Into the room with the light to make sense of this nonsense.

As her eyes fell upon Hunter, she had only two strings of questions, not that she voiced either. His air seemed familiar, but since she'd never seen her mysterious man in any sort of light, it would be difficult to go off of looks.

No, instead, the rather brave, and normally fair woman asked a relatively reasonable question.

" Why did you save me?"

Yeah, there was no way two people lived in this place. It screamed ' ALONE' .

Hunter turned his head to the side towards her, though not near far enough to see the woman. His back was to Naomi. His mouth turned up into a bitter smile.

"Does it really matter? You are alive. That is what it comes down to, what is the most valuable thing."

Now, the man turned to face her completely, crimson eyes gauging her.

"You do not strike me as the sort that would wish to die, Miss Linu."

Naomi considered this man, no doubt in her now as she actually seemed to commit every inch of him to visual memory. Let's face it, they already knew each other from touch due to oh, three, four years of this? However... She was struggling with saying she'd messed up right now as she looked over him.

" It is not favorable. Living tends to hold more enjoyment... Well, some form of living anyway. "

She amended as she considered him. You know, he looked pretty good in the light too. Either way, the little woman's metallic gold eyes roamed this man a moment more before she stepped two steps closer. She could touch him now, should she chose. But she didn't reach forward for this at the moment.

" I should not have laughed, considering. Thank you."

Considering how they met, considering what they were to each other, considering how her nights were with him, considering who had warned her... not she should not have laughed, at least she was learning?

Hunter watched her for a moment and then gave a slow, assenting nod as his eyes turned away.

"No, you shouldn't have."

However, that was one of the things he liked about her, that what she just did. He was not a particularly callous man, either, so he let it go. Right now, that wasn't his biggest worry (though it did bother him more than he let on). He shifted, moving to sit down on his couch. He seemed distracted as he gazed off to the side. Who could blame him? He was.

"You are free to use that room," he remarked absently.

Staring at him a bit longer, she moved to sit down next to him. Now she did touch him, after all, he'd been there to kiss on her when she woke before he'd leave. It's not like they were complete strangers.. in the touching field. Knowing each other, more so.. but anyway.

" Where are we, precisely?..... This is really going to happen, isn't it?"

The last was more to herself as she seemed to be settling back against the couch, lightly touching him, but nothing more, her hand still absently placed upon his thigh.

Hunter response to her touching was absent. He didn't even think about how he lay his hand over hers. The man was currently frowning at the wall.

"It already has happened."

There was a long silence. Only then did he seem to process her lesser question.

"Southern Greenland. Countryside. My house."

Naomi nodded slowly, considering him. The next question was meant more as a statement, it even came in the form of a sigh.

" You don't eat."

Which meant no fridge, which meant no chocolate milk and oreos at three in the morning, and more importantly, likely no kitchen. Which left her with... she was hungry. Who could blame her? She'd been passed out for a day. This would wait though, as was obvious by the way she casually moved into his lap. She did not know to fear what he was, he'd been the only to ever bother or seek her out. Of course, messing with something and Elder's claimed is typically frowned on... so.. yeah... However, this woman was not stupid, and that's why she spoke more.

" How bad is this going to be?"

she asked gently.

Hunter frowned even deeper as he thought about it.

"You know The Lord of the Rings?"

He now let his eyes roll across her now, not a hint of humor about him.

"It'll be like that, except worse. You never know, you might change your mind about that living idea."

Now Hunter moved. It was nighttime, and especially as of recent he found it difficult to stay still. He set the woman on her feet. He turned to gesture into the next offshoot.

"However, you seem to have forgotten, Ms. Linu. I, in fact, do eat."

Just not the same thing as her.

"Come, there is some food in the kitchen."

Well, that's what he called the room that held his table (it was nice to have a place to spread papers and stuff out now and again) and his half-sized fridge. He kept one for the same reasons that many other vampires did. It was nice to have blood and a few medicines stocked. However, there were no cabinets or stove. There was only a sink and a microwave on his marble counter top.

Sitting in the middle of the table was a lone grocery bag. There were various food items that didn't need to be kept cool, and the most cooking that they would need could be done in a microwave. There were also disposable dishes in there for her.

Naomi sighed, watching him.

" You've called me Naomi from the start."

She pointed out gently, starting to feel like she was dealing with a patient, rather then her midnight lover. Either way, she was content with the pop in the microwave oatmeal bowl, still holding to the sheet. Maybe he just didn't notice the cool.

Either way, the scarcely clad woman moved over and lightly took hold of Hunter's side.

" It didn't matter as much before, but I would fancy an answer now, what is my thief in the night's name?"

She asked him gently.

Hunter gave a wry smile at her first comment.

"When you were lying naked next to me in bed, yes."

Well, he was blunt, wasn't he? The man had actually moved back into the living room and was once more staring out the window, pondering everything. Yes, a little distracted. The man frowned deeply at the darkness, then just moving about the living room. Mentally, he was making a checklist of things that he should do soon. It was probably a good five minutes before he spoke.

"You wouldn't believe me if I told you."

" Try me, midnight pleaser."

she purred gently, watching him as she casually ate her oatmeal. He was free to eat ( from her or otherwise) whenever, it was his home. And she was always willing, even that first night...

" I do not normally make the same mistake twice."

He should know that, after all, he had been with her every single night for the last... Yes, it was definitely four years.

Now, the man stopped moving. He considered her very carefully, moving to lean against the partition. Then, his eyes narrowed ever so slightly, peering at her intensely.

"Hunter."

Naomi smiled, rolling the name about in her mouth a moment, looking Hunter over before she nodded and moved to him, kissing him. reflex. They had a purely physical relationship built, why would she be bashful about such a thing now?

" Hunter."

Naomi laughed slightly.

" Your always satisfying, with or without a name."

Naomi informed him, kissing him again, then glancing about.

" The entire town is gone, isn't it?"

She asked now, once more refraining from asking where the hell this put them. She wasn't a Dr. ( or student) just enjoying the attentions and affections of a semi-stranger. No, now she was in his house, and likely living with him... What did that change? Anything? Everything? Nothing? Not only that, but he clearly cared on some level, but how much? ... She knew how she cared for him, but things of that sort were not the kind of thing she spoke of. She wasn't that type of girl.

Hunter's expression darkened now.

"Your town?"

He gave a bitter grimace.

"No, buildings are oddly resilient, far more so than people. Most of the building still stand. Only the people are gone."

The man's eyes held her face, seeming to wait for her reaction.

Naomi merely nodded, moving back to the couch, settling down , watching Hunter for a small while The little woman didn't seem to be in shock, merely processing the news. Finally, she looked up at Hunter once more.

" What does this mean?"

Yep, now the question mattered enough to ask, on some level, anyway.

Hunter rolled his eyes.

"Life sucks."

Watching Hunter move about, she sighed and considered this question.

" What was your intent, aside from saving my life, when you brought me here? What was the idea behind offering me a place to be safe?"

He clearly didn't like people with where he was living... so....

"Well, you alive, Ms. Linu."

Hunter crossed his arms as he paused his movements for a moment again. Then, he gave a sigh and uncrossed them again. He resumed his walking.

"Truthfully, I have not decided much beyond that. Why?"

Naomi considered him, eyes raking over every single inch of him. She was entitled since he'd done the same to her for years, right?

" Because it matters. And it's Naomi, Hunter."

She purred, eying him. She knew he was old, but he was starting to feel old with that repeated proper addressing.

She could stare all she liked. Hunter didn't care. He wouldn't have cared if he was naked or if he was wearing a bunny costume. Stares had long since ceased to bother him.

"Do you want to weigh in on the subject?"

" It's rather risky to do so."

Naomi offered slowly, thinking this over.

" I am not safe unless I am with you."

She acknowledged, glancing over Hunter.

"But I'd not impose, nor am I a free loader."

She purred slowly, seeming to be weighing this. Before it was an equal ( if not favoring his side) deal.. but now... Well of course she cared... but that was irrelevant.

Hunter didn't respond. At least, he didn't at first. He gazed out the window for a long moment. Then, he shifted, speaking as he moved towards the door.

Naomi nodded as she watched him, moving to watch the rain fall in the night, listening to the rain pour down over everything.

" I will."

she offered as he left. She normally heeded his warnings, except this most recent one..... she'd learned her lesson.

Once the master was out of the house, it was strange. Things that had been sleeping or hiding now came to life. The lamps dared to flicker twice. Somewhere, there was something rattling in the building and somewhere else there was a gentle periodic creak as though someone was moving and disturbing the floorboards with their weight. No, there was no mysterious other person in the house. It was just Naomi. However, there were only two locked doors in Hunter's home. She was free to roam around or whatever. He would be back in an hour.

Naomi looked about the house. She was not easily scared. This would be why she merely climbed up onto the couch, watching the rain fall until she fell asleep. Honestly? she was half certain she'd wake to his hands and lips in her bed... half certain she'd not wake at all. her body needed to heal either way, so out she was.

Hunter didn't bother her at all, even when he returned. The man placed a folded set of clothes at the end of the couch beside her feet. He was leaving her alone just because he knew that she was broken. He clicked off the lamp, moving through a different part of his house. Just keep moving. Just keep moving. Just keep moving.

Naomi woke a bit later, considering the clothes. those would be warmer. After a few moments later, she tugged on the clothes, on the couch and all. No, Hunter walking about didn't register.

This was real. Here's to dealing.

It was close to dawn when the rain turned to sleet and hail occasionally decided to berate the window wall.

"Are you intending to sleep in here?"

Geez! When did Hunter show up?! He was leaning over the back of the couch slightly, peering at the woman.

" I never have fancied storms. I do not think only hearing what it is doing will be a comfort. I can see it out here."

That wasn't a yes or a no. That was a 'you know I am scared of storms' in Naomi speak if there ever was such a thing.

Hunter didn't move, just looking at her for a moment.

"Two can fit more easily into a bed than on a couch. I thought you might want some company for a little while before the sun comes up?"

Well, whether he was over the sting or not, he was offering her some semblance of normal.

Hunter followed her, and he gave a soft chuckle as he caught her so that she would not hit the floor as she tripped over the foot board. The man placed her down in the bed, sitting on the other side so that he could take off his shoes.

"How are you feeling? Do you need anything."

Naomi looked over Hunter, smirking as she merely tugged the man into her bed, kissing him again. This was more as it should be. Him in her arms. Kissing her.

" No. Just my man back."

Oh, let's be realistic, she'd called him that the last two years.

Hunter took her at her word. He turned over, laying with her and kissing at her. Almost habitually, his hand slid under her shirt. That was how this normally went, why would he fight it? There was a reason he sought her out - if she was okay, then... However, he paused. She was cooler to touch than normal.

"Are you cold?"

Or was she ill?

Naomi shifted, tugging Hunter closer. He felt warm with how cold she'd gotten.

" Your house is freezing, darling."

Hunter artfully removed her clothes, pressing her cool skin to his warmer hide.

"I'll fix that."

Duplicity for the win?
