I Didn't Think It Would Happen Like This

He answered with a small smile at her as he took another kiss.

Willow's face fell.

/I didn't say it wouldn't occur to me./

She suspected that if her body managed to slip her control, it would have done only bad things.

Ansel shook his head.

"It's alright, my love. Everything really is alright. Let's get you fed."

[Sushi]

Willow nodded a little.

"... You really think I did good?" She asked after they walked a little further.

[Tree]

Ansel smiled.

"Yes. I was proud of you for expressing your boundaries. For being there with me and communicating with me.... for telling me when something was upsetting to you instead of just simmering with it. "

He guided her into a little place down the way that smelled strongly like cheese

[Sushi]

That made her feel a little better, even if she didn't think she'd done that much.

"That bread looked really good, though," she pouted.

[Tree]

Ansel smiled, pulling her to kiss him.

"This place smelled nice, do you want to go back to the other? "

He was feeding you one place or another.

[Sushi]

"no."

She slid an arm around him.

"This one is fine."

[Tree]

Ansel smiled and kissed her nose, delighted to see breadstix brought out with the menus.

/ Does this bread smell alright? /

He asked with such an unaware hope on his face.

[Sushi]

Willow nodded and took a bread stick.

"I don't think bread can really smell 'bad'. I think it just doesn't smell like much when it isn't good.'

[Tree]

"I can smell the garlic. "

Butter, too but he could not fully gage the difference from some cheese and butter so he didn't guess there.

[Sushi]

Willow hesitated, stopping halfway to her mouth.

"Is that going to be a problem now?"

[Tree]

"Uh, no? "

He asked in confusion.

C why would it be? "

He'd always smelled the garlic?

[Sushi]

She picked at a little salt crystal.

"Cuz we're closer now and you're... You know?"

Ansel looked perplexed.

"You've already eaten food since this all was done? Certainly.....oh, are you meaning garlic specifically? "

He asked, a tiny amused smile dancing on his face.

[Sushi]

Willow bit her lip and picked at another crystal.

"... Yeah. That's what I was asking," she mumbled.

[Tree]

Ansel shook his head.

"Eat whatever you wish. Your eating garlic will not harm me any more than any other food. "

[Sushi]

"maybe not harm, but offend?" She clarified, just to be sure

[Tree]

"Nah. I'm fine with it. I might like the smell of cupcakes better, but I'm not bothered by this."

He answered, amused as he kissed her forehead across the table..

"You're cute."

[Sushi]

Willow smiled a little and ate her bread stick, then another.

"They're good. Thank you "

[Tree]

Ansel looked delighted to hear they were good, looking at the menu.

"What's a calzone?"

He asked quizzically as he looked for a picture without luck.

[Sushi]

"um... Like... A bread pocket filled with stuff - usually meat and cheese?"

[Tree]

"Oh. So like, a travel food? "

So he was looking at the to go food. He got it. On to the next section.

[Sushi]

"they didn't have to be. They come with sauce for dipping a lot of the time."

[Tree]

"Huh..... but why in a pocket, then ?"

He didn't get it. But he was trying?

[Sushi]

Willow shrugged.

"Dunno. Same reason pies are pockets, I guess?"

[Tree]

"Wait wait wait. "

Poor dude.

"A pie is a pocket? I thought it was more like.....a basket? "

[Sushi]

"they come in different shapes?"

[Tree]

"what?!"

This was only amplified confusion and possible horror when the kindly waitress offered to let them try the pie of the day and definitely described a specialty pizza.

[Sushi]

"yeah?"

Willow didn't get why he was freaking out about it.

"Some are like baskets, like you said. Some are baskets with lids. Some are pockets."

She listened to the waitress.

"He's still deciding, I think."

[Tree]

"Uh. Yeah. What she said. "

He was bewildered at the variety.

"How do you two things apart, then? "

[Sushi]

"looking at them? Or context? Or tradition? Or specific names? Like, 'Dutch apple pie' has a different top from just 'apple pie'."

[Tree]

".... that's so much. "

He decided with a bit of wonder in his voice as he started going over the menu with his wife.

"I dunno which you'd want....."

They didn't have a chicken nugget pizza.

[Sushi]

Willow listened.

"The vegetable one sounds nice."

[Tree]

"Kay..... i can't believe there's so many pies..... is everything like that? "

He asked, looking puzzled.

[Sushi]

Willow had to think about it.

"Yeah, for the most part. I think most foods fall into a bigger class. Like I could say 'pasta' or 'casserole' and mean a huge amount of things."

[Tree]

"How do you know it all and keep it straight? "

He asked in further defeat..

[Sushi]

Willow pulled a bread stick in half.

"Just time."

She shrugged.

"Working in the tavern or watching other people with food, I just picked it up over time."

[Tree]

"Huh..... you're amazing."

He imparted with a spontaneous smile at her.

[Sushi]

"what? I don't think any of that is amazing. Anyone that eats does it."
