Darryn shrugged slightly.

"If you insist." The man lightly bit his thumb, the always-elongated eye tooth pricking it easily. He held it out to her with a laugh. It was funny how their society worked. Bearing a finger was a joke, sometimes a flirt. Bearing a wrist was an invitation, a friendship or a trust. Bearing a neck was something almost intimate.

"Yes. No, but does the vaccination count? Don't ask why, long story. And no, I somehow managed not to get the plague."

Darryn rounded the corner and his jaw bone hit the floor. He was too stunned to even bend over and pick it up.

"You weren't kidding!" He rubbed his hands together eagerly, though he yet did not move.
