In Transylvania in the early 1700's, A young man lived a clam, normal, undisturbed life of a wealthy man of his time, servants and maids at his beck and call. He lived on an old Estate his family had had for years. His sister having wed and moved off with her husband, his parents both having died in a boating accident, he lived all alone, until he had a young woman over one night.

That was his fatal mistake, for the young woman was really a vampire, and soon he found him self turned, and at her mercy. He worked and did everything she told him for about 50 years, when he finally managed to over-power and kill her. The worst part being, it hadn't taken that long to kill her, because he had to learn how, but it had taken that long to realize he didn't truly love her.

Now he once more lived on by himself, robbing hospitals late at night of blood supplies or luring home some foolish person, but never any with kids or a spouse. Now he longed for a true companion, so, now 1995, He started watching the slave trade houses.

In 1997 he bought a girl, and she rebelled against him so much he lost his temper and ended up killing her. He hadn't meant to, but, his temper got carried away before he knew what had happened.

He bought another slave that year, treating her much more like the role she was, but ending up killing her about a year later, when she tried to double cross him.

Now, 1999, he bought two more, both not lasting any longer then 6monthes. At this point, he gave-up.

Now, 2006, He decided to see if their was anything new to see....

~~~~
Elizabeth Alexandria Victoria Smith, or Victoria, as she went by with her friends, grew-up on a small ranch in the middle of Nevada where their was nothing else, but farms. She rode horse back and knew every guy in town. Her family had money, but enjoyed ranching, so continued to raise cattle and horses.
Victoria was an expert rider before she was 10 years old, earning blue ribbons and enough money to support herself before she was 16.
On her 18th birthday she won another horse derby. Also, her trust fund, where all her winnings had been deposited, was now open for her to use as she wished. Not to mention the 20% of her parents wealth that was also deposited in their for her.
With loads of cash at her disposal, Victoria went on a long drive to New Orleans for teh Mardi Graus Parties.
Well, someone drugged one of her drinks, and the next thing she knew, she was tied and gaged, though still with all her credit cards, but her cell and cash was gone, dressed in a plain white shirt that came to her knees, and nothing more.
Victoria was unsure how many days went by on her trip, simply finding herself soon caged in an over-grown bird cage with others in the room caged just like her, watching people walk by, looking at her like she was some kind of canned food on a shelf.
She simply went to the back of her cage, curling up under the small bed in her cage, hiding from sight, wanting none to bother her.
Lot Ayvin Darrenthrope was his name, but he didn't really have a name here. No one did and no one objected to the idea. The slave market wasn't exactly the place where pleasantries were held in high esteem. Anonymity was the favored moral. So, Lot walked on, a nameless face through the underground.
In fact, he didn't even stand out above ground. His dirty blonde hair was too long to be short and too short to be long as it hung to the top of his cheekbones. His eyes were a dark honey sort of color, or perhaps a very pale molasses. Lot was about six two and had just enough muscle to tell people he meant business. All in all, it was your average appearance in a standoffish sort of way.
Lot walked along rather casually, examining the cages. Maybe he would be able to find a suitable girl this time. As he walked away from one cage and neared the next, examining the cowering girls inside. He flicked the metal bar as he watched them. There was no 'don't tap the glass' rule here.
Victoria curled up tighter under the mattress, hidden from view in the back corner, fingers clutching iron tight about her little, keychain ID card. You know, one of those 'I.C.E' cards. It was a reminder of who she was. Where she'd come from. Looking to the scratches and bruises covered her arms and stomach, looking to the water jug by the front of the cage she licked her dry lips and slid further back.
Never going out there again.
Ask for something, get hit. Do something wrong, you get hit. Look them in the eye, get hit. Really, getting hit was something mild compared to the other cruelties she'd seen new pets be put through with their new owners. Rape, beatings for no reason, being walked like a dog...... Of course, everyone left in a chain and collar from this place... but some were on hands and knees to convey exactly what they meant to their new owners.
You are nothing in this place. Simply a quick dollar.
So, as the man came up to her cage, which now only housed her, and he knocked on the bars, she remained perfectly still, all the way down to breathing, completely scared.
Lot's eyes drifted around the cage. For a fleeting moment he thought that it was empty, but it was only that - a fleeting moment. He cocked his head to the side, narrowing his eyes. This handlers of this putrid place would never leave unused space. It wasn't hard to guess where one of the pets would be hiding.
"Come out, come out wherever you are." Lot's voice was smooth across the air, enticing the creature he knew was there. He glanced down at the water jug and picked it up, shaking it slightly.
"I want to see you." He sighed softly squatted down, unscrewing the lid and letting a tiny stream drip out onto the floor of the cage.
Victoria watched the precious liquid drip out onto the floor to waste. Heart racing as she watched her entire week's supply of water pour out, she wanted to rush over and capture the little bits of liquid relief and sanctuary.
Shaking, heart feeling as if it were stuck in her throat, she shivered and hunkered back further from him. They wouldn't let her die. They wanted to make money off her too badly... they might punish her, but they'd give her more water. Even if it wasn't much.
Crying dry tears, she curled up tighter under the bed, chanting in her head a small nursery rhyme, trying to get away.
Lot placed the jug down, resealing it. He paused, waiting for a moment before his brow furrowed with a minor frustration. He stood straight, running a hand through his hair.
"I could buy you blind and let you keep my dogs." Of course, he didn't have dogs. He never had been a fan of the obtrusive creatures. Still, there was a sort of sound about the threat that tended to provide a sort of motivation. Lot picked up a rather large,blunt pole, considering it in his hands for a moment before rather heartlessly stabbing it under the bed.
"Come out." It more of a command now instead of a coax. He wanted to see the creature so intent on hiding from him.
Moving, if barely in time, she had seen the jab coming. He wasn't the first to try and pry her from her hiding place. He was, however the first to threaten to buy her blindly. That wasn't something she was too keen on. With reservations, and clear terror painted over her face, she crawled from under the bed.
Rich, luscious chestnut brown hair falling down to mid-back in a slightly kinked and a bit dirty manner framed a sweet, heart shaped face. Timid and broken storm gray eyes looked up at him, paired with dry but rosy pink lips, her entire body shaking.
Clad in nothing but a thread bare white gown, shivering from the draft, she crossed her arms over her body as she hid back in the corner. She was visible now, but she was clearly wanting to bolt and hide again.
Light copper skin covered in goosebumps, she tugged the only blanket off her bed and snuggled down tight to the bars against the stone wall of the dungeon like place they were kept in, waiting for him to leave her alone.
Lot withdrew the pole and placed it back on the ground. His brow arched up as his honey eyes drifted over the girl.
"Pretty little thing, aren't you?" There was something about the way her said it that didn't quite seem like a compliment. Lot rapped his fingers on the bar as he leaned against the cage, watching her movements carefully. She didn't seem too terribly slow. She seemed like she would have been one of those girls giggling with pigtails and a group of pining boys if left out in the world. He drew away from the bars, glancing down the way.
He could keep going, but this place was dank and filled to the brim with putrid human bodies. Besides, this was probably going to be like all the others, no matter who he chose. He just wanted to get out. So he glanced back at the stormy-eyed girl.
"Come on then." He didn't even bother to haggle with the vendor. Lot just pulled the asking price out of his pocket.
Looking at him, horrified he'd chosen her, she moved as he called her. From the moment the money traded hands, this person could do whatever he wanted to her. Therefore, pissing him off was the last thing on her mind.
Being here was like taking a step back in time, no computers, no TVs, she'd only seen 'clients' with cell phones, at best. This was all just something she couldn't even come close to understanding. why something so primitive? Why her?
To be honest, Victoria didn't understand alot of it. She understood the basics behind it all, and the functionality, but how one could be so cold as to abuse another living creature, especially one's equal.....
That was it though.
They weren't equals in this world. They were slaves, pets, servants, lackeys, whores, Whatever you wish to call them, they were next to worthless. Merely tools to be used. It had taken watching beatings, and other ' lessons', not to mention, being taught a few herself before she'd even come close to understanding this, and now she was sold.
feeling the collar snap about her neck the moment she hit the front of the cage, adn watching the wrist cuff and chain being snapped onto her new owner's wrist, she had her eyes fall to the floor instantly, keeping her silence as she shivered and worried her lower lip.
Lot twisted the cuff just slightly so that it was comfortable. He barely spared a glance at the girl as he began to walk on. There was nothing of a 'thank you' or 'come again'. This wasn't the sort of place for that. And so, the nameless face took his unexisting pet out. He lead her relentlessly through a maze of tunnels without a word. And then, just as abruptly as all his decisions seemed to be, he stopped and looked at her.
"Your name?" Now that he took the moment to study her more closely. Lot reached out, his fingers plucking at her hair with a mild sort of disgust. His eyes drifted her up and down as he leaned forward and inhaling her scent. Granted it probably seemed like he was a creeper, but he didn't really care. This girl belonged to him.
Looking him over, she winced slightly, reminding herself to let her eyes fall to the ground instantly, a faint " Elizabeth " fell from her lips, fingers toying with the white cloth that barely covered her body as he smelled at her, shivering.
Freezing cold, Elizabeth let him do as he wished, pray for anything but the fatal blows that usually fall about now, eyes closing as she let him do whatever he wanted to do. She was his property. That was one thing she'd had drilled into her everyday. She was property. That was the only thing they'd nearly gotten beaten into her.
"Elizabeth." He repeated her as though running the name across his tongue. "Fine. Come on." He began to walk up some rickety stairs, taking a long breath before speaking. It was like he was suddenly very old, like he had done this a thousand times. To Lot it felt that way.
"Listen very carefully. There is a door at the top of these stairs that will take us into a hotel. I am going to let out of your strap, and you are to accompany to a room. There you will take a shower and put on clothes that make you look like a normal person. We have some traveling to do and I don't particularly like to deal with odd questions. Don't even think about running away. You don't understand, and you will die." It was all rather matter-of-fact. There was no question or hesitation about anything he said, and the only time he broke stride was to slip off her constraints just before the door to the hotel.
"Remember it, Elizabeth. I don't like to repeat myself."
Elizabeth looked up at him now, swallowing hard, as she did what he said as he instructed her to the room with the shower, eagerly taking in every minute detail about her. Toto, we're not in kansas anymore.... she thought absently to herself, soon finding herself in the shower and washing tons of ick from her person.
Slowly she pulled on the pants, shirt and jacket left in the bathroom for her, looking to the window of the bathroom. Much like a little child at a toy shop window at Christmas, she pressed her face to the glass, gauging the drop. It was one risk she was willing to take. Miss, and die. Succeed, and have her life back. Completely worth it, as she saw herself as already dead if she went with this new man.
Carefully she slipped out the window, looking down now at the packed streets, and remembered something. Her fear of heights. This was as far as her escape made it. She was now clinging to the side of the building tighter the the decorative gargoyles to either side of her, looking like she much more belonged as part of the paint or something, currently as white and as life like.
Lot didn't bother to go into the bathroom for a while after the water stopped. He was busy preparing tiny little details for what was to come. When the fellow did enter the bathroom, he wasn't at all alarmed at the fact the girl seemed to have disappeared. He wasn't completely inept - keeping tabs on a new slave was necessary.
So, knowing full and well the issue, Lot paused to adjust his black, button-down shirt before casually leaning on the open window. He looked down at the girl with a hard gaze.
"So how is the escape working for you?" He paused to scratch his nose, acting as though he had all the time in the world.
"I gave you specific instructions, and you disobeyed. I have half a mind to leave you there until your little arms give out and you plummet to your death." He glanced pointedly downward. "Actually, you probably wouldn't die. It's not quite high enough for that. You'd only break a few bones." He leaned out the window a little further as though trying to see the ground better.
"Well, maybe. We are terribly high."
Heart rate jumping to near nascar levels, then stopping all together, Victoria looked up at him with terrified little eyes, fearing both him... And her possible fall. Fingers tightening in their hold on the stone walls, trying to hold tighter to the little cracks here and there. Eyes closing tighter she pressed closer to the cool stones, chanting a string of silent prayers, unaware of how much she was shaking, or the fact the shaking was probably counter productive.
After a bit, the first part of his statement sunk in and she nibbled her lower lip. How is escape working?Don't try to run, you will die Very Poor escaping... I'm still on the sill. I don't like to repeat myself. Grasping at straws now, she looked up at him once more, wishing he'd move himself so she could vacuum herself back into the sanctuary of the bathroom... the solid ground, whole room...
" You told me not to run. I can not help my thoughts."
She replied faintly. She hadn't run. He'd only told her not to run away, not to think of running away. She'd added the second part for the simple fact it was the truth. she had yet to master how to stop her thoughts.
Watching her cling to the wall and tremble like some pathetic spider satisfied Lot in some obscure way. A vindictive smirk curved his lips just slightly as he stared. He didn't offer to help her in any way. It was like teaching a lesson all on its own. The lesson was indifference. A frown creased his face as Elizabeth spoke.
"You were only thinking of getting some fresh air, I'm sure." Sarcasm laced his foreign accent as he scowled at her. "You are going to have to work on how your thoughts effect you. Now, once you're tired of the scenery, why don't you come inside?" The way he spoke the question, just like the way he had said anything thus far, made it seem like it wasn't an option at all.
The moment he moved she was in the window, standing before him, eyes slowly falling to the ground where they belonged. She'd spoken back. Luckily he'd not hit her for it this time, but who knew if she did it again? All she knew was that she needed to watch herself and be careful. Anything could happen, and her behavior could simply earn her more issues.
He was cold, uncaring. That Victoria could handle, it was the way he looked through her, as if she weren't even there, that got to her. The lessons she'd expected. She'd expected to see him knock her off the wall, to be honest. Of course, punishment could still be coming.
Victoria hugged herself slightly now, shaking more, biting her lower lip harder, trying to recover from the fear still holding to her.
Lot watched her from where he leaned on the sink. With a single stride he crossed the room and bent forward. He hand came forward and grabbed a lock of her hair, considering it.
"I should have gotten an uglier girl. The pretty ones always are so pathetic. I'm going to assume that you learned your lesson this time. You better hope that you have." He gave a sharp tug on her hair to emphasize his point before he turned away and picked up a backpack on the floor.
"I don't have time for this sort of thing. Come along." He opened the door. "And try not to look like I'm going to eat you." I very well might. His mouth twitched at his private joke.
Wincing, rubbing the stop on her head, she tried to figure out if he'd just complimented, and threatened her at the same time. Following after him, keeping her silence, she resembled a second shadow, there to be seen at best. She kept her hands to herself, feet barely making a noise on the floor as she kept on his heels.
Why my hair. Did he have to pull on my hair. That hurts :( Victoria silently complained to herself, wondering where she was, and what she was gonna do. Victoria really wanted to crawl into the first open car and drive away to some middle of nowhere and hide forever. Little did she know that she was pretty much headed there... just with one companion.
It wasn't hard at all. Lot had arranged all the details, and there really wasn't such a thing as too expensive. When you had been around for over three hundred years, you had enough time to accumulate amount of wealth. So, as he led his little prize through the airport, he kept a watchful eye on the girl (though not too obviously). There were a lot of people here and he didn't want her to get any funny ideas.
Lot stood under a gate for a moment to pull out some papers. True, this was a public airport, but if you knew the right people, then you would know there were also a few private planes. He glanced up at Elizabeth.
"You don't get airsick, do you?" The look on his face was one of utter disgust at the mere thought.
" No."
Victoria replied softly, looking him over, then about the airport, wondering how easy it'd be to bolt and get lost in the masses. Very easy... but considering her recent run-in with the window situation, she decided against it. Not to mention she got the eerie feeling he'd be able to find her, and she'd not enjoy said finding.
Looking over the attendant that was to help them board the plane, she moved to her 'master' a bit more. If her master knew of the slave trade, it was a solid bet he had alot of other connections to all sorts of things she'd prefer not to think about.
As Elizabeth stepped closer, Lot glanced at her absently, stepping away and onto the plane. Stepping closer was typically an action one did when expecting protection. There was nothing to be protected from. Well, except Lot of course, but he didn't protect people from himself. That was just ridiculous - especially considering that no one knew what exactly he would have been protecting them from.
"Nice to have you again, Mister Darrenthrope. As always, make yourself comfortable. We hope you have a nice flight. Let me know if there is anything I can do for you." Mister Darrenthrope. Where paperwork was needed, Lot was his own great-great-great-great grandson. It was humorous on a good day. With an offhanded gesture, Lot plunked down into a cushy chair, staring at Elizabeth. Apparently the attendant was too. He spoke to the worker without looking away from his little pet.
"This is Elizabeth." Lot was watching, wondering if his little trinket would sit on her own or if she would stand until told otherwise.
Sparing him a look, then the attendant another, before looking up at her 'master'. It was an act against the rules, however, she slowly slipped to setting at his feet, not thinking a thing of it as her eyes fell to her shoes. They were a bit uncomfortable, but they did look nice. They were trend setting, model-type brand shoes, they just weren't all that comfy. Okay, so focusing on foot comfort was pathetic, but, she needed to get her mind off the fact that she was worth no more then I'm worth no more then them, either.
Victoria was doing exceptionally well, until she happened to glance up at a window, about an hour later, and her breathing pretty near stopped as she saw the clouds, heart racing.Palms sweaty, stars and clouds flying by the window, she looked up at her master, horrified. I'm... I'm..... Death would have been welcome to her at this exact second.
Good. Has half brain at least. Lot was at least moderately pleased with the fact that he didn't have to tell her to breathe. True, that was really the only thing that struck his as remarkable thus far, but it was a start.
The vampire was sitting rather comfortably with an old book in his hands as the flight progressed. His lengthy fingers were a bit knobby at the knuckles, but they worked perfectly fine to turn the yellow pages. In fact, there was a certain sort of grace about the motion, as though he had performed the motion countless times upon pages just like these. He was well immersed in the familiar story when he recognized human panic. It had all of the typical symptoms: a heartbeat pounding hard in his ears, breathing choose to take leave, the smell of sweat lingering around his nostrils.
:blink:
Lot ran his tongue over his teeth as his eyes drifted up, narrowing at the young girl. What is wrong with her now? With a cursory glance he couldn't see anything obvious that she should be fretting about. Shutting his book lightly, his brow arched up smoothly.
"Is there something wrong?" His voice was well polite. It would have been all too easy to think that he actually cared.
Breath slowly whistling into her mouth between her teeth, face completely drained of any kind of color, Victoria forced herself to look up at her master, hair falling into her terrified eyes, every inch of her body experiencing faint tremors. Afraid was the largest understatement known to man in her mind right now as she tried to force the words out of her mouth.
All that resulted from this action was a slight choking sound and her shrinking even smaller in her mind as she replayed the possibility of plummeting to her death in a freakish plane malfunction or this master could throw her out if she did something wrong, or what if the floor gave out ?
Lot stared at her for a minute or so, expecting at least some sort of response. What he got was the sound of a squished whoopee cushion. The man was caught in an odd sort of sensation as he watched her. He was flustered for obvious reasons. As he said, he didn't like to provoke odd questions if he could help it. (And, typically, a girl drowning on air tended to raise a few.) At the same time, though, he was enjoying it in some obscure way. The panic had its own, well, almost a taste. It was kind of like alcohol. You knew it wasn't healthy and that you shouldn't like it, but you still savored the burn.
Only when he realized that he was, in fact, still staring at the girl did Lot tear his eyes away. It was more of a damage control situation. If he was going to make a clean disappearance as per his norm, then he was going to have to make sure that this girl didn't, say, die on the plane. And as to her appearance right now... So much for that whole breathing on her own thing. Ugh... He rubbed his temple, looking at her out of the corner of his eye.
"Here. Have a some water." He reached over into an ice bin and pulled out a Fiji, holding it out to her in a hope to still her spaz attack.
Taking the water, she shakily unscrewed the lid, still terrified as she sipped at the chilled contents, trying to convince herself she was just seeing things, fretting over nothing. After a while, she curled up at her master's feet, lid back on the bottle, craddling it against herself, trying to calm down.
Perhaps a nap...
That thought didn't really work, but she was finding that keeping her eyes closed was helping, so playing as if she were sleeping, was working better for her.
The flight from Cheyenne, Wyoming to Transylvania, Romania is hardly one to be taken lightly. After Elizabeth had finished with her freak out, Lot had more than happily returned to his book. It was only when he had finished reading through it that he happened to think about the time. He glanced down at Elizabeth.
She's going to be useless for a week and a half if I'm not careful. Moronic jet lag. Lot stood up at this point and walked over to a cabinet. He pulled out two pillows and two blankets before walking back over to girl on the floor. He placed one of each next to the girl.
"You should sleep. The time change tends to bite." With that he stretched out over two seats, tossing a blanket across himself. If one only knew his inner motives...
Elizabeth opened her eyes and looked to the pills, pulling the blankets over her as she considered the pills, then looked to the light dial on the wall. Contemplating the results of her actions, she moved and turned it to dim, laying back down in the dark.
Finding the pills on the floor, she hesitated in taking them. Thinking over the possibilities, she took the pills anyway. The worst thing that could happen would be to die, and that wouldn't be so bad.
Later Lot had everything shoved back in his backpack and the blanket was haphazardly thrown aside. The bag was slung over his shoulder as he squatted on the balls of his feet.
"Elizabeth... Elizabeth..." He was lightly shaking the woman and his voice was getting slightly louder each time. Absently he had to wonder if he had misjudged her weight. Maybe he should have given her one less pill. She was pretty zonked. They had arrived, however, and he was ready to go. Her waking up was preferred, if not entirely necessary.
Victoria felt something, holding her arm. Without much thought, her arm flew out as she moved to wake up. It just happened to ' catch' Lot's nose, Victoria not even awake enough to know what she'd done.
Rubbing her eyes, looking up at lot, she moved to her knees, looking him over as she saw the look on his face, trying to figure out what had just happened.
Lot's eyes were ablaze as he touched his nose and wiped away the tiny droplet of blood before it was apparent. His hand shot out and looped around her middle.
"Here, let me help you." He pulled her abruptly until she was squished against him in what was bound to be painful. The man's voice was low and angry across her ear, but obviously he didn't want to be heard.
"Watch your waking habits." And just like that, he let her go.
Gasping lightly, wincing in pain, Victoria wormed and fought against him slightly, whimpering against him in pain she looked up at him as she listened to him talk in her ear. Sparing his nose a single glance, her eyes fell to the floor as she felt her feet supporting her weight once more.
It hadn't been intentional. Men
Departing from the plane, Lot nodded in response to the many little things that the attendant said. This one was different from the one that had welcomed them, apparently having taken over on the new shift. Unfortunately, she seemed quite a bit more nervous about pleasing the guests. Her finicking made Lot irritable. That wasn't the only thing making him irritable, but it added to it.
When they departed the plane, it was easy to see that this wasn't a bustling terminal at all. No, the private plane was the only one around in this tiny airport, and beyond the airport were only a few aging buildings in sparse distribution beyond it.
However, there was a car. The driver jumped out of the car and rushed to them. As he tried to take Lot's back he was shrugged off to return dejectedly to hold the door open. Lot glanced at Elizabeth.
"Ladies first."
In no way special, even Victoria picked up Lot's irritability starting to sky rocket, and slid into the car without thinking a thing about it, eyes remaining downcast as she spared his nose a minor glance once comfy in her seat.
I wanna go from here. I wanna go home. She thought absently, rocking, slightly in her seat, eyes closing slowly. Perhaps he should calm down, he's worked up over nothing.
Though his nose had healed, Lot hadn't forgotten about it. He climbed into the car and the driver shut the door behind him to return to his business. As the car slid to a start, Lot glanced up again.
Why did I decide to get another one again? As he thought about it, he couldn't even really remember whether the others had been this much trouble. Then again, he wasn't thinking too terribly hard and he was rather biased at the moment. It didn't take them long to leave the town out into the open, dirt kicking up from the road behind them.
"What's wrong now?" He frowned deeply, either sure of his privacy or not caring about it.
Watching her tongue, Victoria looked up at her master, considering him for a little bit. As she looked him over, her eyes fell to the floor.
" Nothing. "
"I don't believe you. You act very peculiar right before doing something stupid." Lot just left it at that. Everything that had happened thus far was just another fact in support of this statement. At this rate, he doubted that Elizabeth would be able to make the cut. Never again. This is the last time I do this to myself.
The landscape was rather... well, unremarkable. There was nothing there but expansive lengths of grass, a whole bunch trees, and their dirt road. You would think that someone would have coughed up the money to pave it, but obviously no one cared. Besides, it didn't seem that travel was a big hit in a no man's land like this.
" I'm not going to do anything, master."
She purred softly, snuggling down into the seat a bit more, looking at the shoes on her feet, thinking that there was no reason to try to run in a place like this, as there was nowhere to run to. not to mention, she didn't even know where here was.
Lot gave up. It was as simple that. With an exasperated sigh he just slouched and watched out the window. The drive wasn't too terribly long, actually. Then again, this was in comparison to a flight that had lasted a good forever.
The car slowed and then came to a stop all of the sudden with no real apparent reason. There they were, sitting in the middle of the road. Lot didn't seem to think it strange however, though, as he climbed out when the driver opened the door.
