What's Wrong With....?

Post by Tree »

" Actually, watching a vampire clean windows while his hourglass is pouring forth bits of his life without his knowledge is rather entertaining, well, goodnight... gonna miss you at work."

with that, she wondered out of his house.

Vynz didn't follow her. However, something about her statement did grip him. After he heard the door click shut, he put down his cloth hesitantly. The man walked into his bedroom and sat down on the chair before the desk. His eyes did not leave the glass. It dropped a single grain of sand every half an hour instead of constantly.

However, he was not thinking about that. He was concerned with the prospect of dying. Well, not 'concerned' as in worried, 'concerned' as in he didn't know what to think about it. After all, it was very difficult to kill a vampire - especially one of his caliber. Trapping one in a hidden room underground for all eternity was normally as serious as it ever got. But now... The thought of death was intriguing. Would he really mind it? After all this time?

But then that deep dark fear, the only one he actually had, reared its ugly head. It was not a fear of death - he was halfway there. It was a fear of something far more primal, a pondering that had once plagued his mind. Even now, he would not speak of it even to himself, wanting to shove it from his thoughts. If his fear was valid, he DEFINITELY did not want to die. If it was not valid, he would prefer to live, but killing him wouldn't... well... kill him. The problem was that he would never know if this fear was real until he did die.

The good thing about the situation was that he didn't have to worry about putting it out of his mind. That was done for him, as he heard the door to his house swing open. He hadn't locked the door after Suri left... Maybe she had come back? Warily he stepped out, only to nearly be stabbed. Vynz had no problem disarming and avoiding the spindly man, but something was off. He didn't kill the intruder for it. Something about him was strangely unfocused while the rest about him was completely honed in. Suddenly the intruder froze, staring at Vynz distantly.

"Vynz, Bennu Bird of the Villa..." Vynz's eyebrows shot up and he stiffened. He had not been called that in, well, an EXTREMELY long time, and never in English, but that was beside the point. The man continued.

"I am merely a messenger from my Bokor. Had he wanted you dead, you would be. In fact, you will be. He sent me to give you his decree, so you would not die before you knew of your transgression. Loa knows. The 1920's. Karl Denke was not who they said he was. You were." And then with nothing else, the man suddenly collapsed, his skin growing ashy. Then, his body faded into nothing but blood. Blood that spread all over Vynz's hardwood floor. The hourglass dropped another grain of sand.

Suri felt that spine chilling feeling as the pressure about the place and she turned upon her heel and looked back towards the little place she'd been walking away from.

Eyes sparkling ever so slightly with intent interest. Not the kind that she favored, but for something to give her that kind of feeling, she'd ....... dang it, I just got a good distance away, too.

She walked inside just as the blood spattered about the place, and she made a rather small look as her eyes wondered over her attire, and then to Vynz. At least he was still living.

Vynz looked up at her from where he was standing hunched over his sink, the pool of blood standing (as it was everywhere else) and staining the sides and bottom of his feet. The man looked kind of pale, like he was trying not to be sick. Normally, he would have commented about how it was hardly polite to enter uninvited, but the door had been left open and he was rather preoccupied. The man's voice was much softer than he normally used.

"I think I'm in trouble, new girl."

" What level?"

she asked, judging the house and man before her. It was definitely a level that she felt she was going to need to involve herself on, but still.

Vynz grimaced, looking up at her now, ashen-faced.

"Well, considering that it is literally a matter of life or death, I would say six feet deep." He pushed off of the sink, standing up straight. However, as he did, he was swept by a wave of nausea. There was all this blood everywhere, and it was bad blood, tainted blood. He needed to clean it up or leave or something. It was all he could do to keep from puking as he waded through the standing liquid. He was trying to decide if that was enough for her. After all, he wouldn't want to try and ask for her help - he was indebted to her once.

Suri sighed and looked about a moment before pulling out a little bottle and glancing to him. as if judging whether he'd let her do it or not, she bent and uncapped the bottle. within moments all the standing blood disappeared into the small container and was now capped.

Tucking the bottle back away, and muttering something, watching her clothes seemingly turn clean once mroe, she looked over vynz.

" So I need to probe your mind, or are you going to dish?"

"I willingly share most of my thoughts when asked." Vynz sat down at the kitchen bar, running his fingers though his blonde hair. His intense blue eyes turned to the little bottle in her hands, gesturing to the only other stool that he had in there.

"Thank you." He paused, thinking of exactly what to say first as he pulled Glob out and set him on the bar, watching him run around.

"I received a message - messenger, more correctly. I am being punished by a Bokor. Do you know of them? A... ehm... specialized voodoo practitioner?" He waited there, deciding to take this bit by bit. The man reached out to pet his newt.

" Heard of them, but don't know of them persay."

she replied slowly, watching him carefully. Voo Doo was typically not where she needed to worry, as they tended to leave her type alone.

Vynz cast her a sideways glance, sighing before turning his eyes back to the little creature on the marble.

"Well, apparently, there is a voodoo priest - they call them a Houngan... or perhaps a Mambo, I don't know if they are male or female - that is holding a grudge. Bokors practice both white and black rituals, but are especially known for their dabblings in the dark."

"One sent me a messenger, an undead completely different than either a zombie or my own kind. It told me that I am being punished for something that happened in the 1920's." Vynz glanced at her. He highly doubted that she would know the story, but he might as well ask.

"Do you know the story of Karl Denke?"

" familiar with the storyline."

She replied with a nod, looking over the newt as she tuned into vynz a bit more, keeping tabs on the vibes of this place, not entirely sure what to make of it.

Vynz nodded slowly, laying out a jellybean and watching newt preoccupy himself with licking it furiously.

"Karl Denke was not the real perpetrator. It is common knowledge amongst the supernatural community of the area, and a suspicion of the rest." He frowned now, pausing to think about this.

"I am being persecuted for those murders. I imagine that I will die by some way or another when the glass runs empty. But..." He pressed his lips into a thin line and turned to face the woman beside him fully.

"I didn't do it." Vynz's bright blue eyes were resting on her in earnest, as though inviting her to do what she would, to see that he spoke the truth.

Suri didn't need serums, or spells to know how he spoke was anything shy of truth. With a rather deep sigh she weighed the information placed before her with careful scrutiny. After a while, a long while, two grains of sand falling before her words touched the air again, her eyes returned to vynz.

" The next question would be how did they come up with you as a suspect? aside from obvious reasons."

After Glob had been placed back in his tank, Vynz moved away. He had left her to do as she wished, having wandered into his room by the point that she finally spoke. The man glanced up at her.

"I don't know. In the 1920's Evynna lived in Germany, so I visited her every so often, but I was in..." And then a thought struck him. The vampire turned briskly, opening the two cabinet doors that exposed his bed. He climbed into the little hole, having just enough room to sit up on the mattress, rumpling the blankets that had been crisply made. He mumbled under his breath as he slid open a panel.

"He called me the Bennu Bird of the Villa." He stared into the little hole before pulling out one of the many leatherbound journals in there. Vynz looked up at the woman now, as though just remembering her presence.

"I was living in Egypt at the time."

" That still leaves out two things. One, was it your sister instead, and two, where they get you from."

She replied simply. After all, male was really just subject to speculation at this point, if they believed they had the wrong man, who's to say that it was even male?

Vynz shook his head, speaking the first part quickly.

"It wasn't Vy." His gaze drifted down now, his eyes falling on the book in his hands. He ran his fingers across the cover pensively before opening it, flipping the pages gently. He didn't answer he question for a long time. Eventually he came to a page where he stopped, staring at it for a long time. He spoke slowly.

"I visited her often, but I did not spend my entire time in Germany with her presence obviously. We are twins, but we are not conjoined." He sighed softly, still staring at the ink.

"I am the Bennu bird, the Heart-Soul of Ra, the Guide of the Gods to the Tuat." He gazed steadily at Suri as he quoted this phrase from the Book of the Dead. Vynz knew it by heart. After all, once upon a time it was his name. He moved on, creating his next part - continuing with metaphor.

"But the Bennu Bird is death, only a guide to the underworld. He may marvel at Isis, but she will forever belong to Osiris." The man leaned forward, turning his journal around, laying it open for Suri to look at. On the right page there was a carefully drawn portrait of a German female with a name written underneath in Egyptian scrawl. Then again, everything even on the other page was written in Egyptian.

"Once upon a time, I was sweetheart to the murderer."

Suri gazed at the book only a moment before nodding slowly, eyes wondering over the man before her.

" clarify."

Yep, a rather vague response and one that could apply a million ways, but that was all she had to say upon the matter. he was presenting millions of different bits of facts, and not presenting them in a clarity that made sense... therefore....

Vynz sighed slightly, climbing off of his bed and shutting the two doors behind him. He held the journal out to her.

"I was just remembering some things I had forgotten, and I guess it must have come out pretty jumbled." He walked over the chair and sat staring at her intently.

"I was living in Egypt at the time. Vy was in Germany. When I was visiting my sister, I met a woman - that woman, Rosaline." He gestured to the portrait.

"She a manticore, with years even beyond my own. Best I figure, she was curious with me. I was the first vampire she had ever met. I think that is why she followed me home the first time. She was only with me in Egypt that once, for a few days. But there was an accident, one that she actually induced. I was exposed. But then, I was amazed, because Rosaline fixed it. She spun a story likening me to the Bennu Bird. 'The Bennu Bird is life, and the Bennu Bird is death. It exists beyond itself, brought about by its own words,' she said, and then she stabbed me in the stomach to show it would not kill me. 'The Bennu Bird is merely a guide, a passing from this world into the afterlife,' she said. They believed her, and I was not only allowed to live as a known vampire in the midst of humans, but they - in a strange sort of way - worshiped me." He ran his fingers through his blonde hair, furrowing his brow at the memory. He didn't want to go in to details about it, at least not now.

"I was quite taken with her for some time." He shook his head.

"But in that funny way that life goes, she grew bored with me, and turned her attentions to another man. I was stupid then. I insisted on pursuing her, trying to convince her heart of me." He smiled bitterly.

"That was the only reason that I discovered what she had been doing. I stumbled into her basement one day, looking for her. I found her in the process. I was the one who helped that lad. After all, no human can escape a manticore without either marvelous mercy or luck, you know... I was disgusted with her, and after a day or two, we parted ways for good." Vynz looked down to the hourglass.

"The suspected the woman faintly, but were convinced otherwise. 'No woman could have committed those crimes, surely!' they thought. They looked at the records kept and laughed nervously to themselves, 'It was definitely not her! No woman can write or keep such explicit record!'" The vampire shook his head slowly.

"I had entirely forgotten about Rosaline until just now."

" So now, given the denial of woman being possible to bring the earth to it's knees, if they so well please...... Your the next logical answer due to your the only person that fits the bill."

She rationalized with a faint sigh.

" Men seem to get in more trouble...", Suri mumbled as she considered the man before her as her mind worked, soon opening her new bag and playing with many of he new things, hesitantly picking up the silvery wooden object, swishing it around as it's slender lenght cut through the air with ease.

" Only a few of many options truely open to you here, what outcome are you after, in this instance? Do you wish to pay for her crime, just as the past man did, or...?"

Vynz actually laughed now.

"If you're asking me if I still have feelings for her, then yes. I feel nothing but sourness for her. The defamation of the dead is horrible, if you want my opinion." However, there was a brief emotion about his eyes, a tiny little flash. He was nervous. But for plenty of good reason.

" Oh, there is always an alternative."

Suri replied with a small smile now placed upon her lips.

" Now, of course would be simply how you'd like to go about it. That hourglass is merely telling you teh free time you have until they come and start attempting to kill you. I should tell you from the only angle of personal experience I have with them is that they hardly always succeed."

she purred, smiling as she stood now, placing bottles in her backpack, slipping the wand into her pocket.

" So, being you'd like not to die, I'd best tell your sister I'll be absent for a bit.... i don't see anyone warding off these people without at least some form of assistance."

Vynz pressed her thin lips into a line, glancing away.

"I don't want her to get involved..." And he left it at that, glancing down as he received a text back.

I KNEW IT! LYING BASTARD CHILD, GIVE HER BACK!

If I'm a bastard child, what are you, twin? Yup. Despite appearances, they cared about each other. Or at least they claimed to.

she purred with a sly grin upon her face.

Vynz cast her a glance, not bothering to answer a silly question like that one. He grabbed a coat out of his closet and then slipped out of his house. He stood on the doorstep, looking at her for a long moment before handing her his coat.

hesitating, she took the offered coat and followed him out of the house, watching him. There were many ways to get there, least of which was him transporting... which was not her liked means of transport... but....

" I was about to ask."

Suri replied, watching him closely, not too certain she knew how she felt about him taking more clothing off infront of her... she was easily distracted after all, hence her fascination with him in the first place.

Vynz smirked faintly.

"Something like that." He went ahead and he peeled off his shirt, tossing it to her too. The man winked at her.

"You'll want to put that coat on." With that, he took a deep breath, flicking both his hands as he exhaled slowly. This time was stranger than the last, and one could tell that it did require some focus. His skin stretched oddly then there he was, standing there a man with two huge wings covered in a fine white fur the same color as his white-blonde hair. They had 'replaced' his arms from fingertip to shoulder, connecting just behind his shoulder blades.

Flying. Over large bodies of water..... on his back? The clear look of hesitation was only a brief moment as she contemplated wearing his shirt too, and finally settled on doing so, stripping the coat off, pulling the shirt on, then placing the coat on over her now hidden self.

" this is kind of awkward..."

So, she hadn't even touched a man, aside from the normal, hand shake or shoulder tap in a good while, well, aside from what was really needed, and now he was a bird thing, and she was even more awkward... Was she suppose to just climb on piggy back like, or what?

Vynz actually laughed at her again, suddenly seeming in a far better nature than he normally was, which was amusing considering the circumstances of his life at the moment. He bent his wings in front of himself - the way that his wings worked, they bent much like an elbow and where his hands had been was the little doo claw, stretching down from that point was a flap that extended further to full length: exactly like regular bat wings.

"You aren't shy of me, are you?" He could really care less about the whole thing. One, he wasn't shy, or even modest. Two, he was not going to tear through a perfectly good shirt if he didn't want to. Three, there was no way that he would have been able to carry her as a two pound bat.

"C'mon, new girl - I won't bite." Vynz winked at her and walked over, turning around so that his back was to her. With a sigh, he kneeled down on one knee so that she wouldn't have to like... flying-lemur-jump on him or something.

((*has to pause at this point, for the mental image is bringing too much laughter for accurate typing*))

"Arms over the shoulders, around the neck." The vampire realized this was difficult to explain.

"You know, where your armpits are kind of resting on my shoulders... like a bear hug? It reduces the drag for me and the strain for you that way." He gave a chuckle.

"It's not like you have to worry about choking me to death."

Hesitantly, Suri moved to climb on him, arms slowly wrapping about him, shaking her head slightly.

" There is a reason I keep distance from men."

She replied simply, not explaining as she was now wrapped about him, trying to focus on something other then the fact she was wearing his clothes and hanging on his back... it wasn't working well for her, but she was trying.

Vynz just rolled his eyes and shook his head. He spread his wings - it really was amazing to see. The furry things stretched several feet to either side of him, and he gave one little flap just as a test. Then he gave another full one, the low sound of air being pushed out from under them pulsing through the air as he lifted up. He didn't say anything, almost forgetting the woman on his back. In fact, he only had one thought of her.

I hope she isn't especially ticklish. Because the muscles required to tense and pull his wing/arms all the way back would rub against her stomach slightly. Other than that, though, he was content to work to gain height, assuming she would say something if there was a problem.
