Alyson looked up from her bed, trying to pin which shadow he was, unable to do so.
" Come here."
she begged softly, lonely beyond belief. she only had him to visit her, and they most of the time, wouldn't let him..

The shadows under her windowsill seemed to move in that peculiar way that shadows do, but then a piece seemed to slide across the floor and settle along the railing of her bed.
"I'm here. Are you okay?"

Alyson looked at him, tears falling down her face, shaking her head.
" Look at me. I'll never have work again."
She replied simply, reaching for the shadows, wanting to touch him, but stopping.

Cael sighed softly, the sound eeriely like the wind brushing against her window.
"Why not?" He reached out, velvety shadow curling about her hand.

" I'm hideous now. A woman with poor looks has very few options."
she stated simply, remembering how she'd gone to eating one meal a day to maintain her current weight.

"First: You. Are. Not. Hideous. Second: looks aren't everything." Cael frowned to himself.
"Besides, you have a contract. If you break it, I refuse to give you any good recommendations in the future.

Alyson nodded slowly.
" I won't break it. I'm just lost afterwords."
She replied softly, tears falling even easier, looking over the shadowy figure, watching her hands go through him, heart breaking as she moved from him, laying in her sheets.

The shadows slipped around to the other side of the bed and Cael just sighed.
"Why are you thinking so far ahead? No one can predict what will happen. Don't worry about it."

" When you live as I have, you always worry about what comes after."

Cael didn't say anything for quite a while.
"Then will you ignore that right now you are in good hands?"

" The hospital, or your's?"

" Your's ... if they were real."
She said softly, wanting to kiss and snuggle him really bad right now.

Cael shifted slightly, his sigh little more than a breath of air.
"They are real." He shifted again, looking up at the little red LED in the corner of the room.
"But I'm sorry they can't be tangible. The cameras..."

Alyson merely nodded, moving to lay well, I suppose, in him as she snuggled down, swallowing the tears in the back of her throat, holding in all her emotions as she felt she needed to do, feeling utterly isolated.
" I know. Your not family. "
she said, trying to hold the scorn and pain in about the fact that the only people she cared about she wasn't allowed to see.

Cael sighed internally and slipped into her bed, his misty shadow sliding over her skin. No one ever said that any of this was easy.
"Sleep. I'll stay with you tonight." Hopefully they would discharge her soon.

Alyson merely nodded, taking a good time to fall out as her eyes held to the shadow she'd come to adore, eyes eventually growing too heavy to keep open.

When the morning came, they discharged Mason. The nurse gently woke the girl across the hall as she took her vitals one more time.
"How are you doing this morning?"

" as I always am."
Alyson replied as she heard Mason leave, sighing to herself as she knew she was in for at least a few more days, looking to the mirror after the nurse left, judging how bad the scares were, for the millionth time.

Cael's voice drifted across the air, obviously not near the bed. Actually, he was on the floor in the far corner of the room.
"Not better at all?"
Mason was meanwhile walking around. Well... hobbling... on crutches. Do you have any idea how hard it is to pickpocket someone while on crutches?

" I feel the same locked in this cage. I was lonely enough of a person when I was out and about, but in here, it's like they are trying to crush your spirit or something."

Cael looked over at the surplus of flower vases, at the brightly colored blooms.
"Would some more flowers help?"

Alyson smiled, shaking her head, looking over to the voice now.
" No, but they are a very nice reminder that someone out ther cares."
She replied simply, eyes seeming to have lost that little sparkle they use to contain.

"In here." Cael corrected. But that was all that he could really do. At least for now. Besides, he should probably find Mason.

Cael actually laughed softly.
"Apparently he can still clean you out, even if he is on crutches. He's grumbling about it a lot, but don't let him fool you. He likes the challenge. Oh... He said to give you this as a get-well present." The shadow shifted closer to the bed, and as Cael released it, a huge sparkly bandaid materialized on the bed beside her.

alyson smiled slightly, shaking her head.
" He means well. I'm not sure what children's nurse he took it from."
she mused, smiling a bit more as she added it to the table with all her flowers.
" I can still dance, I just don't like myself as well, that's all."
She explained absently now, looking to her hands.

Alyson sighed, a week later as she was discharged, not sure what had happened to Cael, she hadn't seen him last night, or the night prior, looking about, setting down on the bench outside the hospital.

Cael walked up behind her. The only reason that could really be noticed was for the clop-thud-clop-thud that followed him. He held out a huge, deliciously greasy burger and fries towards the girl, Mason attempting not to spill a cup of soda.
"Thought you could use some real food."

" how are you holding up?"

Mason didn't hear the question right. He thought she asked what was holding him up. He had been having on and off hearing issues, but the doctors said that should go away within a month.
"These crutches."

Cael shrugged.
"He's deaf." Mason objected indignantly.
"Only partly, and I could hear that just fine!" Whack. Crutch to the back of the knee.

Alyson made a little face before smiling, moving to kiss Mason, then Cael, snuggling to both, starting to sob. Yep, isolation hadn't done her any favors. This was the first time she'd been able to touch either one of them in forever.

alyson winced and moved, looking over Mason kissing where he landed ( Thigh) and moving to kiss him again, making sure he was alright before moving to lift Cael the rest of the way off of her, just for her eyes to fall upon the scare about her arm.

Cael paused, following her gaze. He just sighed. And then Mason figured out what she was staring at.
"I like that one. It makes me think of a ladybug. I feel the urge to color on you with a marker."
