alyson looked to cael, then to their son and back..
"i wish i could have done better."
she offered him gently, looking back to her daughter and then to mason.
" i am glad she is mostly healthy though."

Cael didn't say anything. Talk about a sucker punch. The man looked between her and the baby, shaking his head some. In some way that he couldn't pinpoint, it was faintly insulting.
Mason looked down at her.
"What is her name?" he eventually asked in a pouty manner.

She had meant no insult, she didn't see either of them as fully healthy... she was highly worried about her son, actually, looking down at her daughter.

she replied softly, eyes on him and the child, looking to cael, inching to her son, looking at him and wanting to touch him so bad, but everytime she almost did, shadow... she looked crushed, again and again as she tried two more times before stopping.
" i am very tired."
which was a cover to have help back to her room so she could cry alone.

Alyson was surprised and almost dropped the baby, looking down at the little face, shaking her head slowly.

Alyson looked at mason, shaking her head slowly.
" the only kind people in my life are in this room."
she responded gently, handing him his daughter now, letting Cael lift her to return her to her room. she would be sobbing before cael even made it out of her room.

Everything, you two both deserved something so much better then this...you both have given up, and given me so much... i couldn't even have the kids when i should have, and i can't even touch one of them, and the other looks like it will just fall apart..."

"You did just fine. You had plenty of extenuating circumstances, and you lasted so much longer than most expected given the medical issues. They are going to be okay."
Cael tucked her in.
"It's not that he isn't letting you touch him. He's reaching out to hold you back. I know that's hard to understand... I'm sorry."

Alyson shook her head, sobbing some more, snuggling into the bed.
" mason needs to name her.. i can't even do that."
and she'd work on sleeping now.

Alyson would wake to some nurse prodding her as she looked up and and kissed cael's cheek, burrowing into his chest.
" Can he eat?'
she asked as the nurse left, swirling the little amount of breastmilk in the bottles.

Cael just rubbed his face some, looking at her. What kind of question was that? It was necessary. For instance, if Cael didn't have his coffee, he would not function.

Alyson just went to sleep... or tried to... once cael left the room she got a firm lecture and semi-bullied by an elderly nurse who informed her she'd give anything for five more minutes with her husband or her child, and got alyson in a wheel chair and rolled her down to the icu with the babies and the fathers.

Alyson would take the bottle, but once the child was placed in her hands, he kind of... vanished. she didn't understand, and she would just sit there in silent tears, handing the bottle to cael .

Cael looked around for a moment before reaching out into the nothing of shadow, his own hands disappearing for a moment before he pulled the baby out.
"Here... Let's try you feeding him while I hold him?"

Alyson looked up at Cael, tears ever silent as she reached out and had him sort of sit on the wheel chair so that she could reach, just cuddling cael's side and watching him.
" you have a beautiful son."
she praised him gently, blinking a few more times to try to clear her tears as she would try to get him to take the bottle... he refused.

Cael hesitated. The man then rose, moving over to a near incubator. The man turned on the lamp, readjusting it. He would then do this with two more before walking back over. She had light hitting her from pretty much every angle. No real shadows.
"Try your breast?"
He offered the boy to his mother.

Alyson shifted a bit, unsure of all the lights and stuff were enough, but she'd carefully take the child, crying ten times harder when he didn't vanish, watching him grab at her with vigor once he realized he couldn't wrap around her like he preferred. now he was happy to nurse and cling.
