" A little girl scout?"



She asked him curiously. Well, a food item made no sense, so then a little girl made less sense.... but... Still..

Hunter stared at the woman for a long moment, and then the right half of his mouth tipped upwards.



"No. A small supernatural creature."



He held his hands about ten inches apart.



"He's about this tall, and his name is Thimbleton."

Naomi looked at him, smiling a bit more now.



" can I see him?"



she asked curiously.



" What is he, exactly?"



She asked him cutely, now back to curious.

Hunter shifted now, uncoiling his legs from their indian-style sitting. He stood up, eyes wandering the room as he tilted his head to the side.



"Brownies are rather domestic, but fiercely loyal. A dose of invisibility, a pinch of telekinesis... He helps with the household chores, and he protects it."



The man a step to the left.



"Thimbleton, where are you?"



Hunter was quiet for a moment, letting his eyes roam about.



"He doesn't like strangers. It would be good if he would get to know you, maybe even like you. It's not as good of an idea to leave you alone with..."



Then, suddenly, his head snapped to the side and he shot through the door. A moment or so later, Hunter came back.



"What? Whaaaaaaat?"



The creature in his hand whined at him. Thimbleton was nine (and a quarter) inches tall. His limbs were long and knobby, his feet bare. The creature's skin was brown like a middle eastern person's would be. He wore a pair of brown trousers that only went about halfway down his calves, and they had various patches across them. Thimbleton's shirt was button down, only having two buttons and the sleeves rolled up high about his slender elbows. It was a sort of grungy cream and brown plaid. He had a mop of straight, straw-colored hair that stuck out in all directions from underneath a floppy dark brown cap that had a needle stuck through it. His mouth seemed a little too big for his face, his nose was upturned slightly more than natural, combining with the pointy, moveable ears to give him a sort of impish look. He was a little bit plump, but not fat, and currently Thimbleton's beady black eyes had turned to rest on Naomi with distrust.

Naomi looked him over, not touching.



" I must say, your rather interesting."



She informed the little man. He was a person, of sorts, after all. Either way, she glanced to Hunter.



" How many more things do you hide? What other stories..."



She mused, considering the creature.



" You make him work on the house? He's so small, that isn't nice."



She informed Hunter, smiling.



" Poor little guy is probably worked to death."

Thimbleton hopped up onto Hunter's shoulder. He grabbed the man's collar, leaning forward and waving his needle at Naomi.



"You hush your big mouth!"



He glared at her, his ears turned forwards.



"I am plenty big enough, I can take care of my house and protect it from the likes of you! You nasty little girl, insulting me and don't know what's what! I'll tie your hair in knots while you sleep!"



Hunter's hand shot out, grabbing the little guy as he lunged.



"Thimbleton! You will do no such thing. This is Naomi. Naomi is a friend and she is going to be living in our house."



Thimbleton looked at the woman heavily.



"She's going to scratch the furniture. I can just tell. And dirty dishes! Nasty little girl will leave dirty dishes too!"



Hunter flicked the creature.



"Stop that. Be nice." Hunter paused for a moment before offering a statement to the little fellow. "She's useende. She still has to learn."



Thimbleton grumbled under his breath, accepting this as gnihtemos. He sheathed his needle back into his hat. The little fellow crossed his arms moodily.

Naomi watched him, and she sighed softly.



" It doesn't matter, most people have that reaction to me."



Naomi stated simply, sighing at some thought or another, considering Thimbleton.



" I assure you, I can leave your furniture alone though."



She seemed to be thinking about gnihtemos a moment more before she moved and kissed Hunter's cheek and left the room. He had a decision to make anyway. She'd upset his occupant...

Hunter soon let the little man go. He followed after Naomi.



"Oh, don't take it personally, please. It's just that you're a stranger. I assure you, he bit me at least a dozen times in the first three days that I knew him. So, you know, he already likes you better than he liked me. He hasn't bit you at all."



He paused.



"Brownies are territorial. This is his land, as far as he is concerned, and he takes care of it... and the occupants if he deems them worthy."

Naomi shook her head.



" I have never been liked. I assure you, I didn't take it personally. But I won't bother your room, or things if it will keep him from being as upset."



She stated gently.

Hunter caught her about the waist.



"Hey. You're allowed in there and can mess with my stuff all you want. He'll be fine. He just needs to get used to you. Just don't... light the house on fire or gnihtemos in the meantime."



Then he kissed her.



"And, I like you."

Naomi smiled at him slightly.



" Your bed must be almost like new."



she teased cutely, kissing him back now.



" Honestly, your all the your stuff I want to touch."

"How do you figure?"



To the first count. Hunter looked her over curiously.

" Because if the three hours or so you have been sleeping in it each day is all the attention you give it, then it hasn't seen much wear, at least in the last four years."



She purred, smiling at him, kissing at his neck now.



" And what was that you called me?"



Yeah, not missed, or forgotten.

Hunter held her gently. He leaned back a little.



"Oh, yes. You should remember that word. It could buy you some deference if you need it. Useende. It literally translates to 'unseeing'. The Irish Fae were the ones to coin it. It refers to the sort of blindness that someone new to our world experiences when they first cross over - they see things but they don't know what they are. But it's a good thing. It encourages tolerance. To be useende means that you are favored by someone on this side, and that you are learning our ways. It's a big word."

" It sounds insulting."



She informed him, eying him curiously now.



" I am unknowing because I had no reason to know."



No reason not to know, either. Very limited existence.

Hunter shook his head with a half shrug.



"It's not insulting. I wouldn't insult you."



He paused.



"It's like saying 'she's new'. It encourages understanding and patience."

Naomi nodded slowly, snuggling back up to him.



" You need to work on that decision thing... I don't like that .. Christian is that what you called him? I don't like how he made me feel.... Oily..."

Hunter now gave a heavy sigh.



"I know, believe me, I know. This whole thing is his fault, you know. He's a greedy bastard that likes to take things that aren't his."



He then gave a shrug.



"Then again, that also describes over half the vampire population... He just took it to a new level."



Hunter could feel that hot feeling in his belly, the same that Elders worldwide were feeling. Stupid Christian.

" Then joining his side might not be what your going for?"



she asked him.

Hunter sighed, nodding slowly.



"But if I'm not with him, then I am against him. There are quite a few powerful people on that side too, but..."



He rubbed his face now.



"Honestly, I don't like what he wants. I think it's rather stupid and he should have left well enough alone. But the problem is this: This is not a battle you want to be on the losing side of."

Naomi considered him.



" Than don't be. I am merely because I'm human, we seem to lack the ability to be on anything but.. But you, ... you won't be."



She stated gently, but there was a confidence there that almost rang true with gnihtemos more then just faith in someone...

Hunter slowly grew a smile. Believe it or not (and he had no clue why) her confidence made him feel better about making a decision.



"Well, you're with me, so you've got a 50/50 shot."

Naomi smiled at him a bit more, moving and kissing him hard enough she felt him take a half step back.



" If I die tomorrow and enjoyed you today, it is worth it."

Hunter used that half step as leverage, hoisting her upwards to sit at his waist.



"I would hate to hinder your ______________."



He smiled fully at her now.

Naomi shrugged.



" I don't have one. I was just doing things because they were there to do them. Like go to school and get a degree.... Nothing better to do. I used a random engine online to pick my degree..."



she informed him, considering him and kissing him again.



" When your nobody, and nobody cares, you think you'd be more free, your not. You lack motivation."

"Well, then how about we worry about today?"



Hunter kissed her lightly.



"The past is too painful and tomorrow is too stressful. Let's try for a little enjoyment today."

Naomi smiled, kissing him again.



" And what does my darling in the night suggest while the sun still shines?"



she asked.

Hunter smiled at her.



"Whatever you want. Name it."

" I ...."



she thought about it.



" I really wish I could get ice cream."



she stated honestly.

"Then we'll go get ice cream."



Hunter kissed her once more and then put her down.



"You'll need shoes."

Naomi smiled, darting off to her room. The last time she'd eaten ice cream, she'd been three years old. It was a treat she avoided. But she wanted a handful of good memories. Was that such a crime?

Hunter pulled on his own shoes, waiting by the door for her.

Naomi had even had the foresight to put more then her shirt and undies on. This is why she was now dressed in gnihtemos else, shoes on, cute belt and all.

On his back the woman went.

Hunter raised a brow at how she clambered onto his spine. However, he let her, supporting her. Alright. He was just going to walk, however. There was no rush. He knew of a little ice cream parlor in the nearest town.

Naomi had decided she liked riding, even when he didn't run. It was better then walking a long ways in these shoes anyway.



" I don't even know if I still like ice cream."



She declared.

Hunter glanced up at her.



"I suppose there is only one way to find out?"



He did set her down when they got to the edge of town. There were still humans blithely unaware here.

Hunter led her towards the quaint little parlor. It was painted a mint color with polka dots.



"Then we'll throw it out and move on to gnihtemos else."
