Alyson looked him over, saddening slightly.

" why did you two split? ... You worked better together."

she commented softly, carefully climbing in. she had nowhere to go, she knew this. Her contract for and to everything had been up ( well now) weeks ago. She had no inclination to go anywhere... and being alone. Oh, he was asking alot to have her swallow her pride any further then she had.

Mason started the car, just driving. He gave a small shrug.

"Your baggage moved you to end your life."

He said it quite matter of factly. Then again, Mason had always been that way. Tact wasn't his thing.

"His baggage forces him to live. However, he is a miserable son of a skank and you really don't want to know some of the arguments we had. Eventually, we got tired of fighting. He went his way and I went mine."

How do you really feel, Mason?

" He's a good guy. Your not being fair."

She stated gently, sighing.

" Did you honestly think I wanted to take back what i said? No, I wanted to tack on ' you too' ."

She continued on deciding everything else was out there now.

"... Because I still do... I love you both."

It was weird to have her admit it so. Looking to Mason now, she shook her head.

" I have no where to go, so you can place me anywhere."

She'd be fine on her on. She always had been, and she had her meds now. So SHe'd not off herself.

Mason didn't say anything now. The man eventually just parked the car in front of that house they had once called home.

"This should do. It might need a little dusting, but at least I'll know where you are, eh sis?"

The man hopped out, grabbing the two suitcases and opening the front door.

Alyson sighed, getting out of the car slowly, looking over the building as if being forced to face a monster.

" It should be relatively clean, considering a few days before I was admitted, I cleaned the place."

She commented softly. For those that were paying attention, this screamed many things. For one, she had come back, just had been too proud to call. She cleaned, because she cared, she remembered what it was like to live here. She remembered what it was like to be here.

Mason shrugged slightly, just carrying the things in. He didn't say anything. The man flicked on the lights. It took the house a minute, but then they came on. Mason then carried her luggage, pausing in the hallway. Then, he opened the door to her room, lugging it in.

Alyson watched Mason, having stopped in the livingroom, sitting on the floor, fingers running over the plush rug before the hearth, slowly curling up before it as she picked those flames that had been present when she'd first moved in. This place had been so warm, cozy even...

If left here, medicine or no, who was to say if she could maintain her sanity?

"We're going to need food."

Mason said this as he rummaged through things.

"Do you want to come with?"

We're. That would pulled the woman out of where ever she had wondered, her eyes roaming Mason. She hated asking what came next, but it was a concern of her's...

" You do not have something your suppose to be doing, do you?"

She asked softly. If he had a life, or job, or cat, or anything that he was suppose to be taking care of... She could handle making herself behave.... After all, she'd forced herself to give away Snickers :(

Mason just gave her a look. He let the silence sit for a long moment, as though to imply how ridiculous that question was. Then, he closed the cabinet.

"Watching you. But my goldfish only lived a week when I was seven."

Alyson sighed.

" I was serious. I can tend to myself. Despite how things appeared, I have taken care of myself very well, for a good amount of time."

She pointed out absently, slowly pulling herself up, looking at him again. She wanted to ask something, this much was clear, but she could not, for the the life of her bring herself to ask it.

Mason turned now to face her completely.

"I was being serious too. I'm the same person that I was. That means I could pick up at move to Jamaica tomorrow if I thought it was a good idea."

The man considered her face.

"What?"

Alyson struggled a moment, and then shook her head. It didn't matter. None of it did really. So she'd been wrong, big deal, everyone her entire life had been telling her that, nothing new.

So, with this mindset, the little woman spoke gently.

" I'll come along."

Mason sighed, rubbing his scruff and looking away.

"You don't have to feel obligated. If you're just trying to get rid of me..."

He shook his head.

"The door is open."

Talk about mixed signals.

alyson shook her head, speaking what was on her mind before she could catch herself, speaking it only in protest of his thought process. she never shared such kinds of thoughts as those that came from her now. she never let herself be vulnerable in that way to others. You can certainly bet she kicked herself afterwords.

" I do not understand why Cael said such a thing back, if he did not mean it. Is all. I regret saying it at all, but worse yet, i regret saying it to the wrong man first."

She'd already informed them, in her 'I'm going to die' mindset, that she loved them both.

Something in Mason collapsed. Okay, so where had been his sensitivity before? Now, he just sighed, looking at the floor and rubbing the back of his neck.

"I think he did."

He frowned deeply, shaking his head.

"He is seriously jacked, Alyson. Surely you figured that out? He has a complex with losing people he cares about. Best I figure, that's got to be it - cuz he turned into an ass when you left."

Alyson shrugged, simply slipping her pills into her pocket.

" It's alright either way. like i said, big girl."

Mental big girl on meds to help, who does not understand, but big girl none the less. Hence the lack of tears. Big girls don't cry, member?

This is also why she merely reached over and took Mason's hand and wondered to the car with him.

Mason just moved with her.

"You can drive."

The keys were in her pocket. The man settled down into the passenger seat. He was quiet for a while.

"Did you want to call him?"

He felt obligated to offer this to her.

Alyson sighed, thinking this over.

" I do not know. I have dialed both of your numbers more then once, and hung up after the first ring."

Oh yes, so Mason could get mad at her for this, considering all the jobs she'd caused issues for, given the fact her ringing came at horrid timing...Oh he could be glad she'd thought about calling.

" I know them by heart, always have."

She'd memorized them before taking the job.

Either way, they were soon done grocery shopping, alyson seeming to be no mroe certain of what she wanted. After all, if he wanted nothing to do with her, she did not want to bother him... and these men were important, especially Cael with his large flashy job...

This brought a larger bought of depression from the woman though. What was she? Happiness really didn't matter in this world, or all sorts of SAHMs would be rich...

Mason looked at her for a long moment.

"You could always call and cuss at his voicemail for a while. It might make you feel better. It would make me feel better... if it weren't for the fact that he knows where I live right now."

He flashed her a grin reminiscent of old times.

"So... I guess I'm going to have to learn how to make my own coffee."

This was the mournful fact he settled on.

Truth? Cael's job wasn't what you would think it to be. Right now, actually, he was sitting in a one bedroom apartment in the dark. He was planted on a mat that he slept on, currently drinking a little bit and trying to eat something. He hadn't left his house all day. That wasn't uncommon. He wasn't often in the lab. Most of the time he had to himself. He had declined to teach. He didn't give lectures and seldom debriefed. Yeah, and he never accepted invitations. He didn't have friends. No one knew. That was okay.

" I'll make it."

Alyson offered, smiling slightly.

" The least I can do for naming me Maddison Ginlletton."

She purred, already brewing a pot right now, looking him over, sighing.

" I think I'll call.. but I have to figure out what I do want to say first... cussing at his voicemail would make em feel worse, not better, sorry."

Mason shrugged.

"I don't care what you say to him. Heck, I don't care if you call."

He was currently stuffing groceries into the cupboards.

" But you do care if I remember to put your cremer in your coffee."

She stated with a small head shake. yes, she could still make both men's without effort. Course, Cael had been easy. One cube sugar, that's it.

Double shot of expresso if she got it frmo starbucks.

Alyson sighed, looking over Mason, moving to kiss him after a moment's hesitation, nuzzling his shoulder.

" Thank you." |

For everything. She didn't know why she felt so up and down....Meds were actually leveling it all out for you, little woman, but they aren't magic.

Mason just nodded. What else was he supposed to do? You might notice that he didn't know what to do with your compliments. He didn't know what to do with your affections. Something about it... It was like pulling out an album, knowing that the faces had changed. He patted her back.

"This is a pretty good reason for me to stick around. That being said... I've found my reason... Do you have one now?"

Yet, she didn't say anything. Mason withdrew, just drinking his coffee.

"Yeah, I'm not very good company. Can't take me anywhere, you know."

Ah, good ol' Mason. Make a joke out of everything. He tossed some random things she had had in her pockets out onto the counter. Keys. A used tissue. And so on.

"You never know what will happen."

Alyson shook her head.

" Your some of the best company this woman has kept."

she replied honestly, watching everything, smiling to herself, looking up at him, and stealing another kiss before heading to go lay down. she still wasn't in tip top shape.

Mason let her go easily. Truth be told, he wanted a break anyhow. This mushy stuff was a lot harder than it looked. He moved to his room, changing the linens and laying down on his bed.

Alyson slept until well into the night, slowly rolling over and staring at her cellphone that she had cleaned around. she'd never taken it with her, so the layer of dust on it was thick, as she'd refused to touch it.

But when charged and plugged in, it worked as if nothing had happened... but it was still in service?

After a bit longer, she decided she could not handle a phone call... so, she settled on a text.

' Thanks for coming back. I am sorry you thought you had to.'

Well, that's how she felt, given the feelings she got from him.

Cael didn't text back. At least, not for several hours. Why? Well, he was sleeping. Time difference. However, when he did wake up, he stared at the message for a long time. Part of him expected her to be dead. He didn't respond right then. He went and had some coffee and overcooked eggs at a local diner. He couldn't decide... It was just words. He didn't know if it was even real. Oh well. He texted back anyhow.

I already said why I came back.

Now came the tricky part. She only remembered so much, given the drugs and such she'd taken.. so, she pondered this over as she sat, watching mason eat his food, taking her pills infront of him, just to have a good faith thing settle in as she looked at the text.

" I remember what you said, better then what he said, cause I'd already taken the hallucinogen by the time he showed up."

She admitted absently, looking at the phone as if it had tricked her.

I can't honestly tell you half of what either of us might have said.

Mason glanced up, swallowing. Then, he sighed.

"Are you asking me to paraphrase something? Cuz I sure as heck can't quote."

He had been rather upset at the time.

Cael considered this for a long time. Then, he responded with a single word.

Live.

Because he was done with it. He was done with living. He shut the phone, getting up. Today he was going in to work.

Alyson did cry with this, throwing her phone to the wall. well, she wasn't contemplating death again, but she was reconfirmed ( in her mind) on what she had taken Cael's absence to mean, knees tucking up to her chest as she ducked her head down, disappearing beneath her arms.

Yes, mason's offer had been forgotten in sight of Cael's text. well, mostly forgotten, a faint 'no, thank you' echoed out from her tears. THIS is why she never had emotions. She wasn't built for them.

She cried for a while, not sure how much time had passed before she started talking, never uncoiling to know if she was alone or not.

" ... You wonder why I do not want to have emotional attachment to my employers, look at what I'm like when i'm reminded what i was."

She sobbed gently, more then a small bit hurt.

" Just the hired help."

Nothing more. Good thing she wasn't alone, anti depressants can only combat so much, and the look on the little woman's face as she did start to uncoil was something much deeper then a small amount of hurt.

Mason sighed now, moving to sit beside her. What was he supposed to say? Ugh... Fine.

"You know, he was the first one to call you a friend. He even did it that night first. You spat it back in both of our faces."

And then promptly stabbed herself in the chest.

All this did was move Mason from one category, to another. And it was not a pleasurable move, as you could watch the walls go up as she backed away from him. She was not getting hurt from him to.

" Alright.. ... I am sorry."

She apologized simply, already deciding whether to leave or stay. he had just put himself in with someone who had just ( Once more, from her POV) just stomped on her and tossed her aside. She had been manically depressed for years, and had finally given in to suicide. Not that either of them knew this medical tidbit, as she never used her proper name to address the issue, but still....

Alyson seemed to have decided as she scooted back a bit further. She would not leave, simply because this was not fair to mason. but she was starting to wish ( even with the meds) that she had been allowed to die.

Mason's entire face just fell.

"Hey, don't apologize to me."

But he got up. He tossed out the rest of the coffee and then sulked off to his room. He was going to go crazy from this.

alyson said nothing as he told her this, not moving a bit as she sat there. She had made the mistake of caring for people. She'd made the mistake of thinking she mattered.

She might have been a grown girl, she might have been old enough to know what she was doing, but she had no cares about her self, in any way these days. this would be why Alyson only moved to one meal when Mason ate, and took her pills then, like she was suppose to, but said nothing more. She was trying very hard to not do anything. She was doing that well, though.

She visited the doctor for her first check up, needless to say, they were less then pleased, pulling Mason back after they were finished with her.'

" She seems to have worsened since going home. has anyone been allowed to talk to her? You know, someone that might bring her down? Are you certain she's taking her medication?"

Mason just stared at the man for a minute. Then, he sighed, running a hand through his hair.

"...Yeah."

That was all he answered, but he was beginning to get the feeling...

"But you know, we'll deal with it."

He nodded slowly, thinking now.

"So, if you'll excuse me..."
