Mason did make it down - two flights, a layover, and a taxi ride later. The man walked in to the room while Alyson was out of it. In the quiet of the hospital room, only set to the ambiance of rhythmic beeping and the occasional sound of footsteps passing by, Cael told her everything that had happened so far.
After this, that left the shadow walker standing in the corner of the room and looking pensively out the window, his expression drawn taunt. Mason sat in the chair beside Alyson, reading through the police file (don't ask how he got that).

Three days later, IVs hooked to her, they were forcing her to walk around. No broken bones, and the injuries were little scabs and the bruises were a faint yellow now. She'd not been around either of the boys, awake, and alone, so nothing had been said, as she'd not wished to blow their cover... And apparently they wouldn't either.
Until now, when alyson stood, wearing loose clothing, looking from her hospital window, wondering where she would go next month, what she would do, what new people she would meet... would she end up in a ditch, unknown.

Today, Mason had his hand wrapped up and wrist braced, saying something about falling down stairs when one of the nurses commented on it. At the moment, he was sitting in the chair, playing with a slinky. Cael was wearing a long-sleeve shirt even though it was rather warm today. They had the presence of mind to turn off the tv in Alyson's room, but the one in the nurses' station was currently broadcasting about how Travoski had been apprehended... lying in that same place in the park that his victim had been, himself beaten nearly death.

Alyson looked between the pair, sighing simply.
" I am too short."
why? Because she was thinking of traveling the world, of forcing herself to just let go of it all. She considered the pair, shaking her head. she could hear. she did not care. She had guesses...Founded ones, simply because men were men... but...
" ... I am sorry i could not live up to my end of the deal."
She stated simply. She could not love, and work. And she did. She could not belong, have connections, and work.

Cael was silent, still gazing out the window.
Mason looked up from his slinky. He gave her a smile, showing her no ill will.
"You did. Don't worry about it, 'kay? You just need to look out for you."

Alyson looked at him, shaking her head slowly. No, she hadn't, but she'd take the lie.
" You guys can leave. I'll come home once they discharge me, and work on getting everything sorted out."
She purred softly. She was trying, boys. She was forcing herself into that cookie cutter life. The current issue, even if they left, she was under all sorts of watching right now. They were concerned about her mental state. Apparently no one was suppose to 'just move on' about something like this.

Cael was the one that spoke this time.
"Alyson, let us worry about you. You already quit, so there is no reason not to have emotions."

Alyson looked up, making a small face.
" I was still out of line to say what I had.... I'm not allowed to care. I... "
she was not strong enough to hold this together right now. Near death experiences did that to someone. Hence why she was sitting down, wiping at tears.
" I am nothing but one person, with no one, and nothing. You guys let them know who I was, and they caught the man you took out. ... I... I promise not to say anything like that to you two again."
the little woman had always been alone, and now the pair were seeing the effects of being someone shunned and uncared for had. she was really such a go-getter outwardly... but... It was a lonely life. She now had to let him go, too.

Cael and Mason hadn't got into one single argument or anything during the entire situation. Now, though, they each stood on either side of Alyson. They looked at each other, and it almost seemed like they were arguing with just eyeball looks. However, then, two pairs of arms just wrapped around the woman. Both of them simultaneously was hugging the woman - no words.

Alyson continued to cry, simply crying herself until her stomach started to heeve ( though nothing came up) and she could hardly breath, the nurse rushing in and informing them not to be upsetting Alyson and such, making alyson lay down and get some sleep.\
As a few hours remained, Alyson had already had her bags loaded in the parked and waiting rental car. she had not come from her room, except twice. And that was only because she was still working out the last month, and her conscience would not allow her to skip out on working.
But now she merely sat, hiding in that room she'd called her own. The place she'd once upon a time thought she would be fine with never leaving.
She was leaving now, because she had let emotions come into it, she had ruined it all. She had to leave. Placing her phone upon the dresser, she carefully wondered from the room. it was time to leave. She slipped out without a word to either man, and climbed into her car.
Where was she going? She honestly didn't know. she planned to drive until she ran out of gas, and get more, then keep on driving. people scared her. people hurt her... People shunned her, and disowned, and misplaced, and mistreated......
Until these two... and... she was leaving them because she'd not been smart enough to not fall for them. Stupid woman.

Well, the boys let her go. There was nothing that they could do. They weren't about to try and force her to face her pain. However, they weren't about to let her go without at least some grace.
Mason had tucked away a note to her that someday she might find. A well wish, and that if she ever needed them that she only needed to call - phone numbers and all. Cael watched over her from the shadows, making sure that she made it to the airport okay. These were their blessings to Alyson.
In a month's time, everything changed. If the woman were to come back, she would find the house just the same. The door was a finicky pain, but opened to the same locks. All of the stuff was in the same place. There was only one difference - obviously no one lived there any more. There was no food in the pantry, no temporary items.
It was like the boys had just decided to pick up and leave one day, which was pretty much what had happened. They still owned the house, don't misunderstand. However, they had gone separate ways.
Mason had moved to another part of Maine, closer to the coast. He wasn't too hard to find in theory. The problem was finding him physically. Remember that 'poof' sort of nature how he would randomly disappear for days on end? Well, there was a small apartment that was technically his, and all the neighbors could tell you so, could even tell you what he looked like and his general mannerisms. However, they would never be able to tell you when he was home - he never seemed to be.
Cael, on the other hand, had moved for work. He moved entirely out of the country - though his number remained connected. He generally crossed the Great Pond between Europe and America once a month or so to deal with his affiliates. The phone made it easier. However, if you called it... well... you should try that and see what happens.

Alyson, six months later, sobbing, and sitting in an alley, with her bags beside her had not moved to do a thing. They were the same bags as always. She never unpacked them. She never used a thing in them. They were never touched. It hurt too much.
But this is the time that the note fell out, one of the zippers now broken.
What had happened to this woman, what had caused her fall from such of her normal grace? She had lost the want to be happy. She had no family. No friends. No nothing. She was merely an item. She did bachelor parties. they paid well, but after each, she was sobbing, hurting in ways that were impossible to convey.
But she read this note, and stared at the numbers... Certainly they no longer worked. She knew they no longer lived at the cozy, isolated home that had once been where she belonged. Why? Because once she'd found it abandon, she'd taken to keeping it cleaned when she'd go back to visit the place. She was almost mourning.
She was, in a way. Mourning the loss of importance. Those men had made her feel like she mattered. But this was unimportant now.
She reminded herself this as she tucked the note back inside the bag.
The boys would get a call from a woman nearly a year later. Actually, it was the night before Alyson's 24th birthday. it was a woman, who sounded direly frantic in the voice male she left on both numbers. It was simple, but clearly concerned. Why? because it was just a well meaning stranger who had found alyson's scribbled note of good bye to the men, whom she assumed the numbers belonged to, and the fact that the woman had taken to explain the thoughts about why she must die on her birthday. 'To leave on the day of her happiest memories would be most fitting.'
" If you care for her at all, come! She's staying at 314 Birdseye way. I don't think she has long."
the note only missed out explaining one thing. Where she intended to end it all. but if either man had a brain.. she was using the day of her birth, happiest day of her life... where had she been happy on her birthday last, come on.
But if they were to go to the little apartment where she'd been staying, they would find target pictures she'd shot. Of herself, straight through the head, perfectly, more then once. Books about depression, and suicide, and after life, and the tormenting of souls, and medicine, and the human anatomy, and the list went on.
The suit cases were still untouched, and she'd been in this apartment long enough that they had collected dust, just sitting there.
Alyson was already in that place, making preparations, popping the blood thinners right now. wearing that same little jail bait costume.

Mason was the first one to show up. Well, he was closest. The man, for all of the stupid stuff that he did, wasn't entirely dumb. People - that was what he was good at. That was why he didn't even bother to go to the apartment. This man went straight to where his gut told him to go.
The pickpocket found himself on the other side of a set of doors. There was no one there. Mason knelt down, fishing around his pocket. He always kept certain things with him. Right now, he pulled out a tiny allen wrench and a little metal piece. It took him all of thirty seconds to pick the lock. Then, he stood up, shoving the stuff back in his pocket. Mason pushed open just one of the doors barely enough for him to slip in.
Part of him expected for Cael to already be there, comforting Alyson. Part of him expected the wounds to be bleeding from them all, but for the healing to have begun. He didn't expect to be the first one there. However, he did move quickly, searching for Alyson. In fact, he did find her.
"Long time, no see."
That was all he could think to say. Had it really been so long? She seemed like a cutout from his memory. But, certainly it had been. Just look at Mason. He was wearing a very casual, kind of slouchy but not careless. The man was wearing jeans and a white shirt with a blue button down open over it. His dirty blonde hair was a little bit shorter than he had it before, and he had a goatee.

Alyson looked up. Something about her was just not what is should be. She was not that shining light even in the roughest of areas. she did not hold that mysterious sexy sway with just a half glance.
Looking at her, you saw a woman with nothing left on this entire planet. You saw a woman who, mentally, was already ten steps ahead of where she was about to place her body. She even was listening to music on her Ipod while preparing.
But as her eyes roamed those striking eyes that had captivated her nearly two years ago, she found herself straightening up slightly. she'd prepared for all out comes. Even this one, which would be why Alyson was moving as she were. it looked harmless, but if anyone believed that, then they figured a man on the ledge of a 50 story building was no reason to worry.

Mason held up his hands.
"Hey, I'm not going to stop you."
He said it with a sigh.
"I'm a thief. I'm the last person to try and lecture someone about stealing things. Would you at least say goodbye to me, though?"

" I am stealing nothing."
She replied gently, looking over Mason, eyes softening, hinting at something that still hurt.
" Good bye."
It was simple, the effort clear as she replaced the ear bud on her head, returning to her works now. She had a preferred way to do this.

Mason was quiet for a minute or two more. What did you do in a situation like this? What did you say? He sighed then as he watched her.
"...Why didn't you stay?"

Alyson sighed. He was going to ruin the timing. But fine.
" Because someone like me did not belong there. besides, you both have much happier, fulfilling lives now. Your both gorgeous, you never needed me in the first place."
she stated simply, still working, seeming to be putting all sorts of delicate details to things.

Mason actually laughed.
"That's what I thought too. Turns out that we did, need you that is."
He shook his head.
"Happier and more fulfilling... Sweet, I don't exist. People are constantly thinking I'm a figment of their imagination. Besides, you don't know how I live. Don't guess."
Well, he never had been the sensitive one, but he was honest.
"Why do you keep insisting we're not real people?"

Alyson smiled slightly.
" Don't exist? I'm the woman who caused wives to leave husbands. I'm the one who caused boys to learn what wet dreams were. I'm the issue that caused all the scum of rapist and abusers to think it was alright to idolize and womanize every female they met."
She purred, seeming to only be half aware she was still talking as she worked carefully with the powder in her hands, swallowing it down.
" I was just the cherry on top. Their is a jar full in the fridge. Go pick another. You did not need this easily obtained, completely invisible being. You two really never needed me, never will. Besides, if you miss Cael, go back to him. Your the two that are close."
They were real, but they worked without her. She could not stay because of emotions. She refused emotional contact with an employer. A wise idea, but.. still. And she did go back, to an abandon house. Not exactly reason to stay 'back'.

"No, we're not."
Mason proceeded to share several citations and insults over Cael. Discontent, to say the least. However, his gentle approach faded to a little more of his nature as he moved on.
"And you know, that thing about not being allowed emotions in your workplace - that's a load of crap. You never signed. You weren't getting paid. That's not a job. That's a roommate."
Yeah, he finally called her out on it.

Alyson looked up at him, eyes firm, even if they were glazed over from everything she was feeding into her system. Their was an art to it, a slow, steady process for what she had planned.
" I felt that way, in the middle of my contract. I merely kept it under wraps. I let myself become more then I should have been. I never signed, because I did not want to face the reminder of that fact."
Plain and simple, and the first of five clocks that were set, chimed three times. She slowly started dumping clear liquids in the small pool-like area by her feet.

Alyson sighed.
" Life is not fair, or I would not be in this situation."
She stated gently, looking to the clock that now ticked to midnight, slipping herself another set of pills, and laying down now, in this pool-like item, the vapors already causing her to blink hard. A real life sleeping death. but this one she'd not wake from. She'd simply vanish in her sleep.
This is indeed what started to happen as the woman tucked her hands under her head, eyes closing. The medication would let her slip off slow and painlessly, the vapors would keep her in a forever sleep. She was set to die in the most blissful form of suicide.
And the worst part was, the items she used would not be traceable in her system in about an hour. They would merely assume, in an autopsy that she'd died in her sleep.
" Life is not fair, or I would not be in this situation."

Mason gave a soft sigh, then moving to her side. The man knelt down for a minute, leaning over and kissing her once. But then, he had to move - the vapors didn't sit well with him and he didn't like how it made his head feel.
About the time that she would falling asleep, Mason was moving away and a shadow fell over Alyson. Not literally in the sense it had once meant. However, her unconscious form was scooped up into a pair of strong arms.
Cael had finally got here. He hadn't been in the country. It took a little while longer to get here.
"We are needing those bottles." Time had played with this man too. He looked more or less the same physically, clean shaven with the light brown hair that flirted with the idea of trying to fall into his eyes though it wasn't quite long enough. However, he was wearing a blue button down shirt and tie as well as black slacks. Over it all, he had a white doctor's coat with the name 'Dr. Aubright' stitched on to it - complete with an ink pen in the pocket and a stethoscope around his neck. He now spoke with a faint accent in some other germanic language, as though he wasn't used to speaking in English as much as whatever this other one was.
Mason didn't say anything to Cael, just paying mind to the comment. He grabbed up the pill and liquid bottles, carrying them with him. Cael didn't say anything the entire way. However, the man didn't take her to a hospital. That would raise a suicide flag. No, the man instead lay her down in his car, having folded the seats into the floor so that the backseat and trunk were all one thing.
The man didn't wait. He knew that time was the important factor. Alyson wanted to sleep? Alright, she would sleep. Cael pulled up a cooler and then produced a small little vial, turning it upside down and drawing an amount into a syringe. Then, without a word, he lifted his stethoscope into his ears, pressing the cool disk so that he could hear both her heartbeat and her respiration as he began to administer the drug. He quickly tossed the thing into a small SHARPS container, removing the stethoscope from his ears. He gave her some activated charcoal as well, just to help until he could do better.
"Stay here and keep hold on her head like this. I will be right back."
And, the man was. He returned five minutes later, holding a box of things. Mason would have been impressed if he knew how Cael got them. The man now lay the box down, pulling out a pole and extending it, hanging three different IV drips from it. It was eerie how calm he seemed. He was a research doctor, but he had a license to practice, so maybe that explained it. ...Actually, no, his calmness came from something else.
Mason watched as Cael tied her arm and ran two IV ports as though it was the most natural thing in the world. Then again, it kind of was for him. He was a hematopathologist, after all. He could do anything a hematologist could do, plus some. Phlebotomy was nothing.
Cael was silent as he attached the woman to saline and medication drips. However, the next part was not quite as smooth. He ran a tube down her throat, attaching her to a respirator. Then, he proceeded to pump her stomach. It took him two tries to get the stomach tube in the right place.
Either way, he got it done. All from in the rear of a hatchback car. He removed all of the tubes except for the IVs. Then, the man in the white coat sat down in the back of the car. He didn't say anything or do anything special. He was just sitting with a clipboard, taking her vitals every ten minutes or so. The medicine he had given her to sleep should wear off close about the time that her drips started running out. That was what he was waiting for.
Mason just hovered nearby, waiting to see the outcome.

Alyson took a full two hours to detox. On had to admit that she had put full thought int this as she groaned in pain. This was not where the woman had thought she would be when it his this time. She'd thought that she'd most certainly be in hell's embrace now.
Eyes roaming over those beside her, she questioned whether she was in heaven of hell. They were looking at her oddly. Likely hell.
"I don't even deserve death?"
She asked of them, looking rather accusingly at Mason. He'd said he'd not stop her.
Mason took the accusing look and just gestured towards Cael as though to say that he was the one who had done it all (he had, after all) and that if she had a problem, then she should just take it up with him.
Cael seemed rather indifferent. He wished that she would stop talking, as he was trying to listen to her breathing, and her voice was making that difficult.
"Not under these circumstances," he stated plain as day in that strangely inflected voice. After a minute, he withdrew, lowering the things around his neck and writing a new set of numbers on the makeshift chart he had been keeping. Then, he looked down at the woman as he unhooked the saline and collapsed the stand again.
"You should have called."

Alyson slowly reached over and pulled the IVs out, rather versed in how to do this, looking to Cael.
" Why call? "
Honestly, she didn't even know she had the numbers, until a few weeks before she'd been planning this. but really, why call? To tell them that 'thanks, but I wanna die now, care to stop me from that?' ?
She seemed to struggle though as her skin brushed his. You could see her losing her thoughts now. Memories were something she was struggling with lately. it was taking over her life to live in the past.

Cael looked over her arm to make sure she did it right, but that much wasn't a doubt on her personal capabilities. More than anything, the action just seemed like habit. Then, he walked over to the box, lifting it up into the back of the car.
Mason had moved closer and was standing nearby. He watched as Cael paused when Alyson's fingers had exposed the little slice of exposed flesh at his wrist between the gloves and his wrist. He just stood still for a moment before shaking his head and then moved around the side of the car, opening the door and going about sitting up one of the seats.
"Because we are your friends."
He even dared to speak for Mason on that one. However, with his next one he didn't.
"I would have gladly helped you, even if you didn't want to stay around. Mason, come help me with her." The man did. "And lift... two... three."
They shifted the woman into the backseat. Mason didn't seem entirely comfortable, like there was something he was dreading. However, Cael didn't seem to mind or even to notice as he pulled off his gloves, then moving to buckle the woman in though she was reclined.

First of all, in a normal Alyson mood, she'd have been insulted at the idea that she was heavy enough to need both men to lift her. but she was not. She knew why they did it, and reached over to unbuckle herself.
" I do not need 'help'. I knew what I was doing. I always have. Even now. friend is not the title that was mine to have."

Cael did it just because he was trying to move her through a small space. he didn't want to bang her against anything. Mason spoke first.
"Yeah, you danced. That didn't mean you were just the little ballerina in the music box. You are a person too, and we cared about you, whether you liked it or not. Get over yourself."
Suddenly, there was a hint that there was in fact a rift between the two men. Why? Because, with the same neutral calmness that he had treated Alyson, Cael now picked up a small black plastic box (just a little bigger than his hand) and hurled it at Mason. The thief hit the concrete, hand reaching up to hold a split across his forehead. He looked almost murderous when he looked up at Cael, who didn't so much as spare him a glance. Holy cow. Mason spoke more though as the doctor buckled Alyson right back in.
"You knew what you were doing, sure. It was just stupid to do. You had a good thing, but you wouldn't let yourself keep it."
Cael did look up at this one.
"Shut up."

Alyson looked between the two.
" What the hell do either of you freaking care? I was a ballerina with benefits, now just let me be."
She stated as she unbuckled and climbed out, of the vehicle again, absently cleaning up mason's forehead. She still cared about them, even in the 'I wanna die' mode.

Mason actually smacked the hell out of her hand - batting them away. He was obviously rather upset.
"Fine, if that's the case, then what the hell do you care? I was just a gig - a source of income. Leave me be."
Cael had crossed his arms and was now leaning against the closed trunk. He murmured something to her about how she shouldn't be moving around, but he didn't press it. The only really decisive thing he said was a single word.
"Friend."

Alyson stepped back slightly, and shifted from them. Neither would stop her from what she did next. How many near death experiences could a woman handle. She had caught a blade that had been set aside and slammed it into her chest, blood oozing everywhere.

Mason moved towards her. He was so frustrated. He shouldn't have answered. He should have just deleted the voicemail. He didn't realize that losing a friend would be so painful. He thought he had already lost her.
This time, Cael didn't move. He just stood there now, watching as Mason knelt and looked at the blade as though trying to decide what to do. It was so strange to see the more sensitive one just leaning there like a stone. Mason eventually looked up at him.
"Can't you do something?!" This death looked a lot more painful.
"Not really. You can't help someone that doesn't want to be helped." His voice did show a glimmer of hurt. Mason was angered.
"Then why did you do anything in the first place? Are you just TRYING to be a heartless bastard?!"
Cael was quiet for a moment. Then he stood up away from the car, looking between the two of them. His black eyes then just turned away.
"Because I thought that maybe for once I could prevent the premature death of someone who got close. You know what I'm saying. She was a friend to you just like she was to me - we both know what that means. I thought that maybe since she didn't say goodbye that meant we still had something to say."
He fished the keys out of his pocket.
"Obviously, I was wrong."
He moved to close the open car doors.
"So, you pick. Pull it out and she'll die faster. Leave it in and a hospital could save her. You have to take her there either way, or you'll get charged with assisting a suicide."
Cael wasn't concerned about that or even his medical license. After all, he had been wearing gloves, and he had and he had an alibi. (He had been in Europe just a handful of hours ago. By rights, he physically couldn't be back in America right now.)

Sputtering and cough, Alyson looked about. They had kept her sedated for weeks. They had kept her under watch for even longer.
She was uncertain what to think for several days, until she saw Mason. They had her on anti depressants of rather good caliber, and they constantly took the time to assure themselves that she would not do what she had previously.
Looking up as Mason entered the room, she started to cry, moving on the bed now and lunging at him. It was a full blown 'omg' kind of hug, complete with hysterical tears.
She clung to him as if he were the only life line she had in the world. Since he was there, he sort of was.
" They want to put me in a ward."
She was terrified, shaking from head to toe. She'd been fine since being awake on medication. It was a had split decision among the doctors, meds, and home with check ups. Or simply place her in a ward. IN her defense though, the small, glossed over version of why she'd gotten to that point had earned a ' Completely expect-able reason to long for release' from four different shrinks who had seen her. In other words she had 'not crazy' working for her. Not that this was much.

Mason's body gave in just as easily as it always had. His voice was tired.
"They tend to do that with people who try to kill themselves."
However, as he pulled away from her to sit beside her, he reached into the inside pocket of his coat. He tossed her a McD sandwich that he had smuggled in.
Cael = hide nor hair for the past few weeks.

Alyson looked at him, saddened.
" It was all so dark..."
she purred faintly, shaking her head.
" I've lived in that darkness for years... but it smothers you after a while."
She stated softly, sitting down on her bed, snuggling him. They would not allow blankets or pillows in her room, only the sheet. They would only cover her with more once she was asleep, and if she had someone to watch her the entire time.
Alyson ate the sandwich, snuggling a bit closer to him.
" I am scared."
never had she been in such a situation, and she suddenly recalled Cael...
" Is he alright?"
she asked, looking up at Mason. She could not remember much, except the fact he'd been there... and then....
" How did you two know?"

Mason shrugged slightly.
"I dunno. I haven't spoken with him in over year except for those couple sentences that night. I don't care. I imagine he is."
The man quite dutifully answered her question.
"There was some girl that called and left a message on my phone. I imagine he found out the same way."
Then, he was quiet for a long period. After, he slowly leaned over so he was hovering just by her ear, whispering.
"The funny thing about your darkness... You were living with one man that was made from it and another that didn't know how to live outside of it. Who better to guide you through it? To pull you out? You should have called."
Mason inclined his head, though he didn't pull away. Perhaps that was the real reason beneath Cael and Mason's friendship.

" I should check on him."
she murmured after a while, looking to the phone, thinking over the rest of his words for a bit, unmoving.
When she finally did move, it was because apparently the arguing doctors had come to a decision.
" We want to see you every week for the next two months. You can go home, on the condition that your brother, " They motioned to Mason. " Is willing to keep an eye on you and insure your taking your medication."
Alyson looked to the papers, signing them slowly, as it was the first time she'd been given a pen in this place. However, she was allowed to put normal clothing on, and everything before leaving, her hand taking Mason's. Well, brother would be weird cause she did litter the man with all sorts of kisses once they were off hospital property, shaking slightly.
" I was afraid to find out how you two had moved on."
Alyson replied to the question as to why she had not called. Her suitcases were standing by their feet as they remained upon the side walk. Then she looked to her discharge papers. Mason had spared her the harm to her real name, earning him a tiny, little smile from Alyson now as she stared at the name 'Madison Ginlletton " ( For those that cared to know " Mason Not Telling " is the translation) .
" Thank you..."
she purred faintly, shaking the tiny bottle clenched in her hand. One a day, no worries, right?

Mason shrugged slightly, rummaging through his pockets.
"Yeah..."
He pulled out a set of keys before picking up one of the two suitcases. The man then gestured.
"Come on. I'll give you a ride to wherever you want to go."
He began to walk towards the car.
"And, for the record - I'm the same person I've always been. There's nothing really to move from or to."
