On the Floor
The doctor frowned deeply, examining the blood against the light. However, he didn't say anything. At least not until Alyson touched Cael. The touch must have startled some part of the man, for he fell to shadow. The doctor waved her off.
"Back up." Then, very interestingly, the doctor reached down and tapped the floor. It was very steady intervals, and after a minute or so, Cael came together again. The doctor shook his head, scowling as he pulled out a few bottles and needles. He gave Cael seven shots.
"I'm going to write you a prescription for some high-dose migraine medicine and prescription strength anti-nausea syrup. If it is anything like before, he is going to have a massive headache when he comes around, and he anti-diuretics set ill with his stomach. Make sure he takes in a lot of water and calories today, he is very dehydrated and if pattern holds, I would guess he hasn't eaten in some time." The doctor handed her two slips of paper. Mason squinted at the doctor.
"What's an anti-diuretic?"

Alyson sighed, looking back to Mason.
" sush."
Looking to cael, her feelings were hurt minor by his reactions, and even more so by the dr, but she kept this to herself as she took the papers and did as he instructed, softly thanking him for his help, eyes remaining locked on the man upon the floor, concern still clear.

The doctor nodded and packed his things up.
"Call me tomorrow to let me know how he is doing. Or better yet, have him call me. You have my number." And with that he left.
Mason sighed with exasperation.
"Finally, I can get something to eat!"

Moving to look over Cael a moment longer, she made a phone call to have the scripts she had delivered to the house today, and then looked over Cael another time before wondering to the kitchen to cook. calories was something she could insure the man consumed.

Mason was more than happy to consume two bowls of cereal before slinking off to his bed and passing out. This was, of course, not before emptying his suitcase. The man had a lot of interesting... souvenirs.
Cael didn't wake up for a few more hours, but when he did, it was with a huge groan. And then the man leapt up and rushed to the nearest trash can, dry heaving.
"Uhn..." Tiredly, he sat down by the trash can.

Alyson found Cael, moving to give him his medication that had been delivered while he was out, making sure he took both as instructed, watching the man closely, currently afraid to even touch him.
after watching him a few ( along the lines of the 15 mins the meds are suppose to take to work) moments, she spoke softly.
" I was told to make sure you get something in you, do you feel up to it yet?"

Cael gave her a look, which was good. His response was even better.
"I feel like I was hit by a train. I don't feel up to much." However, he got up and slunk over to the table, melting into the chair. He was assuming that the box of fruit loops was to be his dinner, seeing that he didn't want to get up to fix anything else.

alyson smiled, moving to get the dinner from the oven, putting the cereal away, placing before him the mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, fried chicken, gravy, and this rather interesting looking casserole. Needless to say, she'd assured herself that he was getting loads to eat as she poured about five glasses of water.

Cael eyed her warily.
"Are you trying to stuff me before sticking me in the oven too?" But he said this even as he reached for the potatoes.

" no... the doctor said to make sure you eat plenty... I want to make sure I do as told."
she said gently, wanting to brush the hair from his eyes, but catching herself as she forced herself past him, shaking her head and muttering something about not being able to do her job without touch.... The stripers could touch whoever they pleased....

Cael caught her by the forearm and then realized how stupid that was, immediately releasing her. He stared straight into his plate.
"I just wanted to apologize... I can't really remember clearly what I did... but I have a feeling that I was an ass."

Alyson froze, turning to face him, shaking her head.
" We were both at fault. No harm, no foul. .... I just want you back to a state I can touch you without worrying."

"...I'm okay." And then he proceeded to shovel food in his mouth. Cael hadn't realized how hungry he was, or how thirsty for that matter. He had downed the water before anything else.

This was a lean, mean eating machine. It didn't take long at all before Cael was moaning.

Cael glanced up.
"Thanks." He felt as though he weighed a thousand pounds, achy and tired beyond belief. But even as he lay in his bed, the man found that he couldn't sleep.

Cael glanced up at the girl from where he had been laying absolutely still and watching his lamp cast moving shadows across the walls.
"I'm sorry, did I look like I was exerting myself?" He was joking with her, though.

Alyson sighed, looking him over. He was still gorgeous, but she was fearing breaking him at the moment, it was only that reason that she didn't climb atop him right now, and stayed a bit of a distance from him.
" No, but you know good and well you need sleep."

Cael sighed and frowned.
"I know it will sound ridiculous, especially considering that I would very nearly lose my being without it, but... I hate taking medicine if I don't absolutely have to." He gauged her reaction.

alyson sighed, hearing mason's snoring from down the hall.
" I'm not going to rest well until your back to normal, and it's not as if mason is any help in tending to you, or that he is even capable."

Cael eventually looked back at her, speaking with patience.
"I am not an invalid. I could get up and walk around if I had the inclination. But if I am not resting and you are intent on watching me do so, at least sit down." He gestured to the edge of the bed closest to her.

Cael's eyes moved away now, his lips forming words almost to soft to hear.
"No, what caused it started long before we met." He suddenly looked up and gestured again.
"Then by all means, sit."

Alyson sighed, looking him over as she hesitantly sat down.
" I talked to your sister, in the process of trying to find the right doctor... you really outta label those a bit better..."
she said softly, hesitant.
" Your sister told me to leave you on your own."

Cael's eyes darkened at the mere mention of his sister, but it was not with anger - it was pain. The man looked down at his blanket, drawing it up around his waist as he scooted up to sit, leaning against the wall.
"I thought since it was my phone, I was the only one that had to be able to differentiate. Sorry, I'll change one to 'call this doctor if I look like I'm dying'." But the joke was flat. It didn't even sound funny.
"Cayla... She's my only living relative. I keep telling myself to delete her out of my phone, but I just can't do it, you know? I mean, I know she hates me, and I can't blame her... It is my own fault. But... she's my sister."

" It's not like my brother cares about me."
She informed him softly, looking over him, feeling bad.

Alyson said softly, looking to her feet, feeling guilty.

Cael shrugged, shaking his head a bit.
"Don't worry about it. No love lost." He blinked a few times, not looking away from the ceiling as he suddenly decided that he might as well step out of character a bit. It was a common thread and it seemed like they needed something to talk about if neither was going to sleep soon. He would offer his sister. Perhaps in exchange she would offer her brother.
"Cayla blames me, and I must admit that I kind of do too. She is confined to a wheelchair because of a car accident that happened years ago. I was only eight at the time, to be exact. I was riding in the car. My mother was driving and my father was in the passenger seat. My two older brothers, Cain and Carl were in the middle two seats, and I was sitting in the back next to Cayla who, being younger than me by a few years, was so small that she still was in a booster seat.
"I remember someone nearly hit the car and I remember my mom slamming the breaks and swerving. That scared me near to death, and for the very first time in my life I walked. The car was still moving, but my mom was distracted by my disappearance. She panicked. The car hit a pole in her lapse and then was broadsided by another one. See, shadow walking was my father's secret - a secret that he kept hidden. It only ran through the males of his family, one or two every generation or sometimes skipping one altogether..." Cael paused.
"...I don't know why he didn't change in time." And then he remembered why had had begun to divulge this terrible memory.
"Cayla's booster seat was all that saved her life, but it also crushed the lower part of her spine. No amount of surgery could restore her mobility below the waist. Everyone else in the car died. And then of course they found me, passed out on the pavement - no one could figure out how I ended up there." Only now did Cael's eyes shift to her.

Alyson looked to him, shaking her head, eyes gentle as she listened to him.
" I'm sorry. "
She purred softly, watching him a moment, understanding both sides, moving on the bed, now kneeling on the mattress next to him.
" Don't blame yourself though. You were a boy."
Alyson purred gently, watching him a moment before lightly, and very uncertainly reaching over and resting her hand on his arm.
" My brother and I are nothing so complicated, actually, it's rather simple. I'm not the class he wants to associate with. I made choices he'll never understand, I've become something he wants nothing to do with."

Cael simply shrugged at her advice. He briefly and more or less subconsciously, glanced at the hand that rested on his arm. But he didn't do anything about it. After all, it wasn't offending - he barely noticed it. Instead, he turned his eyes to her.

Alyson looked at her fingers a while, shrugging slightly.
" Most of the rest of my family, prior to the funerals, took me for dead a while ago. It's something I've grown accustom too. "
Alyson smiled bitterly to herself, holding the comment running through her head as she swallowed slowly, shaking herself slightly to get away from those thoughts, eyes slowly wondering over Cael.
" You are right with the mentality, but this is not helping you get sleep..."
she purred gently, lightly taking her hand away.
" And my touch doesn't do that either, as in the last 24 hours I've nearly crushed you, and completely shadowed you."
She stated softly, looking down to her hands as if they were horrid things.
" I'll leave you be, if you'd like, if you promise to sleep?"
She offered, planning to go make sure Mason was alright in her 'going away' process, then likely coming back in here to watch Cael.

Cael stared at her for a long moment. He was weighing what to do. He could tell that there were dark feelings about her, something about her tone or her eyes, and he could understand that. But what she was saying was frustrating him. Poor Cael fought with his patience for a minute before losing. The man reached over and grabbing both of her wrists.
"Stop that. I hate it when people talk to me like that. Here." He held her hands to the sides of his face. The man was unrelenting, somewhere bordering exasperation as he spoke strongly.
"I am not some monster under your bed or in stories. I am a real man." Cael pressed both of her hands to his chest, his heart thumping the fingertips of her right hand, his breath rising under them both.
"Nothing you do to me is any different than what you do to any other man. Everyone has shadows in and around them... Mine just happen to be a little more tangible. Do not talk to me like some strange and different creature. You know what I am. You saw it from your father to the boys at school to those men that watch you dance. Don't treat me like I am unlike you. Unless it disgusts you, unless I upset you, of course. But then be honest, it is me and my darkness and demons that don't bode well with the faint of heart - it isn't want I am." He cast away her hands now, looking away.

Alyson watched him a moment, his near-breakdown messing with her as her hands now moved back to him, gently turning his head to make him face her, having now scouted closer to him, her intent gaze locking with his.
" I've never seen you as a monster. I've never seen you as anything but a rather attractive employer, and possibly honest friend." Okay, there was some part that hoped more then friend from time to time, but she gave up on real relationships a long time ago.
" I know what you are, physically, and for the most part, mentally... But that one angle, that angle you can touch, worries me, because that's something i don't know what to do about if this kind of thing happens again, or worse, something entirely different...."
She explained gently, eyes still holding his, fingers playing with his clothes.

Cael just shook his head. He was not as meltdownish, but he wasn't quite over it either.
"It comes, it goes. I come, I go. You remember who you are but everything around you screams that you are not. You are nothing but a fly on the wall, but that fly has more substance than you. If you don't concentrate, you'll fall to bits. If you don't will yourself otherwise, you will be swept about by the tides of the world around you." Okay, actually Cael was rather upset. He didn't normally try to explain things to people, at least not these things.
"And then you, Alyson, you wonder why I would be upset when I am being treated like I'm not here, not me, not human and equal. If I'm not here when I'm seen, then maybe the world whispering in my ear is right."
