Hunter and Naomi's Prelude

Post by Sushi »

There's nothing they can do about it.

Hunter shrugged.

It's not like with your type of vampire where the baby dies if the mother doesn't stay hot... and Elizabeth is too close to being nice to be able to stomach losing a child - even unborn.

The man could sense her discomfort and was giving her all the wiggle room that she wanted. Obviously this child thing had her out of her element.

Naomi had the sudden urge to move to the artic or something. She was not the kid bearing type. It just wouldn't pan out. the problem of the day was the guilt trip she was dealing with.

" I totally should have said something."

She stated, defeated, and then she darted off further into the woods. not running from him, something suddenly had her... on edge.

Hunter watched her dart away, not moving to stop her.

"You have a long time to say whatever you want."

He wondered what was going on.

I should have checked with you before ending the child, is what I was referring to.

She replied, glancing about. She could not explain it at all, but she would not need to as three or so glowing beings appeared in the clearing they had just been in. It was a dark, purplish, near black kind of light, and the features of these beings were twisted, sadistic, and kind of... well, honestly, they reminded her of Lot if he were to have ever had an evil twin... if you dared place Lot as the good twin.

Don't worry about it.

Hunter stood by her, glancing back.

Great.

Naomi moved and kissed Hunter now. Why? the beings were moving away. She'd stay right here with Hunter until they were far enough away she could not feel them though.

I did not know you. I did not know what to think. Men normally are not keen on kids anyway....

Hunter, she legitimately felt guilty, if nothing else. But she was obviously uncomfortable.

Hunter's eyes pierced through the darkness, not liking ANYTHING that looked like that. He shrugged again.

It's fine. Don't worry about it.

After a moment he turned to look at her. He was obviously not upset in any fashion.

Naomi nodded slowly, poking him.

Your not like hiding a horde of seventy kids are you? Like that would be kind of awkward and such.

Yeah, if you had that many kids, who cares about one more or less? Coming from a woman who did not have or was not inclined towards children. ( Obviously, or she'd know better)

Hunter's eyes brushed across her face, and then he shook his head.

No.

Mmm... He considered the woman. He would like to think that he knew her pretty well by this point, but sometimes it was still a little hard to figure out what she was getting at, to understand exactly how much she wanted from him.

I fathered one child, a very long time ago.

Naomi nodded slowly, not seeming bothered by this, actually. She reached over and climbed onto his back.

Were you around?

Not asking i the child made it, or if the child was grown, or living, or dead, or whom the mother was, or anything of the like. Merely asking if he stuck around. Yeah, that was a character trait she thought she had down, but... well, there were things everyone wonders.

Hunter's arms looped under his knees as he looked up over his shoulder. He gave a shrug.

Every day except the one that mattered most.

He then glanced back the way the bad juju had gone and then began to walk in the other direction. He seemed rather calm as he spoke on. Whatever he felt (if anything) was masked.

She's dead now. You don't have to worry about her.

I was not judging. I was not pushing even. I most definitely not worried.... I am sorry.

She stated softly, feeling a bit more guilty. Well crap. This would be difficult if this came around another time. She'd deal with that, then.

... How long ago was this?

Couldn't blame her for asking that one.

Hunter shook his head.

Don't be sorry. It's not like it's some big secret or something. I'll tell you whatever you want to know.

He seemed okay, maintaining the same casual disposition that he normally had.

Ah... Let's see...

He paused to do the math.

Seven hundred, eighty four years ago.

I feel like I'm meddling in something that is locked up and stored away and should not be touched.

Naomi replied, but she asked anyway. He knew how curious she was. She normally came out and asked things though. He knew that, too.

So .. we're you like... a major like... jigglo or something back in that time frame >.>

She was more fishing for if she was dealing with a man who might have fifteen women come out of the wood works claiming he's the baby daddy >.> <.< She'd have to smack a ho if that happened, but still.

Don't. It's alright. It's just... part of my story. I had a woman that died bearing me a daughter that I would lose.

Hunter actually stopped walking at her question. He turned his head so that he could look her full in the face. He stared at her for a moment, and then laughed. In fact, he laughed so hard that you had to wonder how he was breathing.

No. I was never promiscuous. Three. Aside from you, I have had three women, and that is including Lannali's mother.

I wasn't asking in that way...

Damn, they were one off from each other and she was a hell of alot younger... but then this triggered another line of thought.

Should that number include all, whether they were taken willing or not?

Hunter's laughing face suddenly fell flat and he stiffened to be standing straight.

I have never raped anyone.

Simply put. Odd find, perhaps, but... Well, Hunter climbed his way through the vampire world without it.

Naomi fell instantly silent, looking at him.

You missed what I was asking.

She stated softly, her mouth had even gone dry....

I was in no way accusing.

Hunter turned it over in his head. Then it clicked. The man eased now.

Oh. No, you do not have to count them.

Naomi nodded slowly. If she had to count all of those... She snuggled Hunter's back and kissing at his neck.

It's turned........

It was following them now. They needed to get to the Darrenthrope's first.

Naomi sat, nestled in Hunter's bedding, and honestly, the woman was crying as many tears as her body would allow her to. It was incredibly painful the thought of letting go.

"Girl is going to wash sheets for me, isn't she?"

Thimbleton's voice came curiously from the air. He was currently invisible.

"Crying when no one is home?"

" I will... I promise."

naomi offered gently, continuing to cry.

Thimbleton scoffed.

"Crying when no one is home. Baffling girl."

The little man then gave a faint growl, leaving the room. However, he wasn't growling at Naomi. He was growling at what had just entered the house, dirtying up his clean floors. However, Thimbleton wouldn't attack this creature.

It was a friend. Fang wandered into the house. The creature was covered in mud and blood, and his whole posture was tired and... sad? He stalked through the house, leaving a trail behind. He disappeared into the darkness of his nook, letting out a few mournful whimpers and then a deeply sorrowful howl that carried through the house. The wolf was laying down now, curled about the tiny body that he had been until this point gently carrying in his maw. He bent his head now, licking at the little wolf cub who was cold and still. It couldn't have been more than two days old. It wasn't dead, at least not yet. It was obviously freezing and hungry and wounded. It looked a lot like its father, too...

If Fang was home, did that mean Hunter was nearby?

Naomi moved for Fang's cries, and she moved to where Fang was now. she looked at the cub, and then to Fang, hand reaching over and lightly touching the little cub, feeling the faint heart beat.

" I am not a vet."

she offered, slowly moving to retrieve a towel from the dryer and wrapped the warm thing about the cub, moving to see if they had anything a cub so young could eat from the fridge. ... No....

She sighed and would vanish and reappear in an instant. she didn't really have the energy for these sifts, but for Fang...... well, he was special to her in some ways. This is why Naomi tentatively fed the small creature. What? well, Puppy formula and baby food meats. It was difficult, but it was working. It needed the extra in the meats to help.... poor thing....

"Are there others, or is this the only one?"

She asked fang, even as she fed the tiny helpless creature. She was still battling occasional tears... but.. she was trying to help.

Fang was obviously tired. The wolf didn't fight her at all. It was a testament that he considered her part of his pack. He was letting Naomi handle his cub. Fang licked at the pup's head as it suckled with what it could muster. Then, he lay his big, soaked head on her knee, just watching.

"It's the only one left."

Hunter's voice was very, very soft as it crossed the air. The man was soaked as well, his long wet hair plastered everywhere. He was covered in mud just the same as Fang too. The man moved past them, opening the door and walking through so that he could go into his bathroom. However, Hunter didn't do this because he was trying to ignore her. He was wounded and intended to go care for that.

Naomi glanced up, then to Fang, making a tiny face.

" I am sorry."

She purred faintly, petting Fang as she tenderly continued to care for the cub, unable to bring herself to look at Hunter. She would go soon.

Fang gave out a whine, moving to put his big paw on her leg.

Hunter showered off, as that was the first step. All of this mud wouldn't help anything. So, for a few minutes, he just watched dirt and blood swirl down the drain.

Not too much long after, he did emerge, having dressed both his wounds and his body.

"Naomi..."

He said it softly as he slowly lowered himself to one knee, leaning on the edge of the half-dividing wall. His eyes turned over the woman. He hadn't expected to find her in his house, but he obviously wasn't upset about it.

Naomi froze in her efforts for the pup, eyes staring straight at the little wall now.

Do not worry. I will be gone soon. I just can't leave this little guy... he needs this little one.

She stated gently, petting at the pup, and watching Fang now. She would help her friends, animal or not, and then she would go... after she washed the sheets.....

I promised Thimbleton I would wash the sheets first though...

She stated gently, carefully untangling herself from fang, cradling the pup and putting the sheets in the wash. Then she would sit back down with Fang and continue to nurse the pup.

Hunter had watched her move about. He hadn't shifted from his position, not stopping her. When she sat back down, though, she was closer. The man reached out hesitantly.

Please...

He placed a hand on the back of her shoulder.

You don't have to go, you know.

Hunter retracted his hand. She wouldn't stay?

How so?

He asked this quietly, not even sure if she would answer. Heck, he wasn't even sure that he was allowed to ask.

Because that is not what I was. Even cared for, that is not what I was.

She stated gently, desperately trying to hold herself together.

" I will never be that kind of something. I will never be..... "

Never be someone worth loving. She knew this even as she brought herself to kiss the pup ontop the head, eyes turning over Fang.

" Keep her warm."

She instructed gently, the small one asleep right now. Naomi would rise to check the washer, finding it finished and she would absently empty the dryer and then load the sheets.

Hunter watched her move. He spoke softly.

"So you won't stay then? Not even if I asked you to?"

Why did he say that? That one slid past his keep.

Naomi paused, pushing start on the dryer, looking to Hunter.

" But you wouldn't, would you?"

She asked him softly, eyes finding him now.

Hunter sighed, shifting now so that he was simply sitting.

"I would like you to stay. There's plenty of room here."

He then let his red eyes turn away.

"But you don't have to."

Naomi looked at him, thinking this over. She was torn. She loved this man when she wasn't allowed. This would make...

" I will stay if you want me to."

Simple as that. why? Because it came down to she had nowhere else to go. Nothing else to do.

Hunter's eyes turned up to her face.

"I want you."

He phrased it deliberately, even as he spoke it gently. Oh, didn't you see? If he had an opinion and you asked for it, he gave it. The man shifted a little then, picking up the bundle that was the now sleeping cub. Fang watched him with heavy eyes.

"Come on, mut. We need to get you cleaned up and dried off."

Fang didn't move.

"Do you want to make your cub sick?"

Now the wolf slowly got up.
