I Didn't Think It Would Happen Like This

Lot stood there for a minute, gnashing his teeth together. He didn't turn to face the other man, now, however. Instead he stared intently at the two. As tempting as it was to just murder everyone that came near his house now, there were two problems with this. First, his last encounter with Dessa had been very... unorthodox. Second...

"I don't like bodies in my yard."

Dessa swiped the hair back from her own face, gazing down into Elizabeth's face. The girl smile was filled with compassion as she nodded.

"Okay. I won't badger you, Miss." Her fingers fanned over Victoria's neck and shoulders. "Are you injured?"

Victoria shook her head, slowly, as the world would still spin if she did it fast, as that gash in her head was still in the process of healing.

" Nothing that can be healed, anyway."

Victoria replied honestly, crying still, but the heaving and such had stopped, merely unable to stop the tears.

" ... I wanna die."

She was very close to asking this woman to help her with that right now.

Kyle made a small face as he watched Victoria, her words hitting his ears as her voice carried across the way. Then he turned to Lot. This was all his fault.

" way to go."

Lot didn't even glance at the irritating fellow. After all, if he did then the temptation to rip the man's face off might have been overwhelming. The urge was vastly appealing as it was.

"She was recovering until you showed up, smartass." Of course it wasn't Lot's fault.

Dessa waded up the newest tissue and tossed it on the ground beside her in a little pile that was forming as she pulled out another one. The package was almost empty now, but the girl didn't seem to mind. Her voice was gentle.

"I know... but that isn't okay." The girl was at least honest. "It won't solve anything."

" I wouldn't have to deal with all the hurt... I wouldn't to know, I killed my child."

She said softly in reply, looking down at herself and starting to sob, very hard, holding herself.

Kyle gritted his teeth.

" And you heard that as well as I did."

So, he wasn't admitting that it was his fault... but those words.....

Lot pressed his lips into a thin line and he clenched his fists. This was a huge and horrible mess. He was completely regretting his decisions. He should have just let himself fall into that hole that being alone produced.

Dessa seemed to freeze for a half second. Her thought was simple, though she didn't voice it. ~She's pregnant...~

"But think of all the pain it would cause."

Victoria shrugged to herself.

" to who? No one cares enough to think about me.... Of course, that could be me being selfish... but.."

She couldn't bring herself to share details with the stranger, but the pain was even clear in her voice as she craddled more to herself, holding herself tighter, heart aching now as she realized that no matter how much she cared for her master, he didn't for her... as thoughtful as he might try to be, he didn't care. Either he wasn't able, or he wasn't over his past... but... either way, she wasn't important... that hurt almost as much as the thought he'd kill her child..... But neither came close to the present pain of loving someone who really didn't even like you... adn seemed to regret you at this point.

Kyle was unaware as his fangs slipped over his lip. he'd watched the girl since birth. He didn't bloody care? His bloody ass he didn't care... but of course, leave a mind washed person to pin whether others cared...

Victoria looked over just as Kyle's features changed, and the look on her face, mixed with depression and raw hurt, now welcomed fear, also.

Dessa didn't spare a glance at the two vampires. She wasn't afraid. After all, she knew what they were. That was part of the reason why she had come out here to begin with.

"Yet there are two..." She hesitated for a fraction of a second. "...men standing over there and fighting with each other over you. And then there is me. I don't really know you, but I'm concerned about you. You seem like a nice lady to me."

Lot turned now. Fear. Fantastic. His hand lifted and then fell in an almost-twitch. He had for a moment almost smacked the back of the man's head. However, he had been able to restrain himself. Now he snarled out words that he couldn't hold back.

"Way to go." As he mocked and chastised, his lips curled back slightly, exposing the teeth he had very carefully been hiding for quite some time now.

Fear kept her rooted where she sat. It was starting to make sense. She'd never doubted the existence of creatures, such as the one Kyle had just turned into, however, she also knew how those kinds had to sustain themselves.... and that made her concerned with why Kyle had come to call... or better yet, why did he take so long to come for her?

as her mind was slowly connecting the dots, placing one with the other as things started to fall into place, her eyes nearly seared through Lot. It only made sense, either he was a demon, of sorts, or a vampire, just as Kyle, either way, .... That explained the evasive answers... and the lack of care, or concern... and even the million different era of wardrobes in his collection...

After a while, Victoria looked at Dessa, and the look was plain on her face. If she hadn't truly wanted to die before, she did now.

" Please... kill me. "

She begged softly. She'd let anyone do it at this point, whoever would do it first. As her brain was loading all this new information, it would be much easier to die, then know what she now did.

Kyle looked at Lot, not phased as he held back a rather aggressive growl.

" i've never hid it from her, she just never put the pieces together I suppose. not my fault."

Lot stared to spit back a nasty response that once again threw the blame off of himself and back on to the newcomer, but what caught his eye caused him to freeze.

"Oh damnable hellfires reach up and smite me now." Dessa had pulled a small knife out of her bodice and gently let the flat of the blade rest against the woman's neck. The teen didn't want to kill Victoria, but... Well, there were several reasons to her behavior. The funny thing was that none of them were vicious.

"Are you sure?" Her voice was warm but tentative. She lightly held the handle with her fingertips, letting the cold metal rest against Victoria's warm flesh. There was a certain feeling that a sudden shock of mortality tended to produce.

Little did the young woman know what victoria had already been put through, the cold of the metal on her neck didn't do a thing to change her mind, as the silent tears continued to fall, she actually just nodded slowly, not caring that the metal lightly knicked her neck. Between the two men, they had just pushed this very fragile woman, completely over the edge, and then went down to run her over, pick her up, drag her clear across the continent, and drop her down another cliff, just to repeat the process... until everything remaining, wanted to just fal off, break away, and die.

" Please... "

Kyle glansed over, and the rather territorial growl left his lips now.

" Damnit."

With the little nick, Lot actually had to back away several steps. Today was even worse than the day with the sugar jar. That day he had not been brinking on starvation. He muttered several curses as his nostrils flared and his teeth ached.

Dessa sighed gently, looking down at the woman with sad eyes.

"I hate what they have done to you... And I am terribly sorry." The woman drew the knife straight across Victoria's throat with a flick, though it was strictly a flesh wound. Of course someone like her would know what pressure would cause arterial damage, would damage the breathing apparatus, would leave one mostly unscathed.

"But I respect you. I would be furious if I were in your shoes." She wasn't torturing Victoria. She was giving the woman a taste but one last chance. "After everything I would want revenge, I mean."

Kyle's reaction wasn't much different, as he looked at the woman, he wanted to walk right over there, and drill the knife into Dessa's head, however, he knew better.

Victoria shook her head.

" I couldn't hurt him, if I wanted to... and Kyle... he's not worth the time."

It hurt to admit either thing, but she could feel the blood seeping down, it wasn't much worse then the sugar bowl, actually, it was a bit better, she didn't have that knock-the-wind-out-of-you force behind the attack done to her body this time.

It was a bit challenging to talk, but she wanted death... she wanted freedom... at least she wouldn't have to watch her living child die this way... and she wouldn't have to know, she was worthless every day.

Dessa leaned forward slightly, letting the full of her young face hover over Victoria's.

"But yet you want me to kill you." Yeah... it was kind of like a dirty trick. "I don't have a bit with you. I don't even know your name. I'm only sixteen. But you want me to be a murderer." Yep. Dirty trick.

Lot was almost bonding with Kyle. Almost. Why? Because he had the same feeling over Victoria. Why not? Because he had the same feeling over Victoria.

She informed the woman simply. she wasn't living like this any longer. She'd tried so hard with Lot. she'd put up with more then he seemed to realize... she was dying on the inside out. She couldn't handle it any longer.

Kyle licked his lips slowly now, this was getting a bit more dangerous by the second.

" She kills us if we get too close, ... Even if she won't kill vicky, she won't do anything to help herself, from what I hear.... so if we don't get to her soon enough..."

sure, he knew Lot had to have heard what he had.... and certainly he was weighing things just as he was, but this was mroe of an idea prod, cause he was out, and he hated slayers.

Dessa looked down with a face that seemed rather untroubled.

"But I do know who you are. I just don't know your name. And they will care if you are dead tomorrow, because then hell will rain down from the sky. So, naturally, I have to say that I refuse to consider your request, Miss." And she put away the blade.

Lot's face was caught in a forceful frown. He did have one idea, but... Oh never mind. Might as well. He lifted his voice, the first word a bit coarse, but his voice smoothing out.

"Dessa! Seeing as she isn't interested in going along with your play, think we could have her back?" Well, it was worth a shot.

Kyle frowned slightly, actually staring at Lot I could have done that....

victoria looked to the woman, placing her fingers to her neck, feeling the ache of the cut now, and looking to her hand as it coated in her own blood. The weirdest part about the entire issue, the sight of her blood wasn't bothering her anymore. She was getting use to her own pending death... she just wanted it to come... right now... At the rate she was going, she was going to bleed to death.

Dessa completely ignored the vampire. Or at least, directly. The girl looked down.

"Would you like me to acquiesce?" She was of course referring to the request that had been bellowed at her from across the yard. Still the teen sat there with the woman's head in her lap. This was actually going pretty well as far as she was concerned.

Dessa didn't bother to object to this one. Actually, she seemed completely nonchalant.

"Probably. Here..." She lifted up the lacy purple skirt of her dress to show a torn like... underslip or something. She tore off a piece and snagged it around the woman's neck. However, she was careful not to cut off the woman's air or anything. The girl looked down to all the blood on her lap. joy.

"That wasn't a real answer, you know."

It wasn't blame, Victoria was past the point of blame, she was dying inside a rather slow death as she thought of watching her child being killed before her eyes, swallowing slowly as she stood, feeling hallow as she looked to her master now.

Kyle could feel he was not only being ignored, but being looked through. That nearly set him off again, however, he kept himself in check.

Dessa sighed softly, her voice echoing a soft hurt.

"I'm sorry, Miss. You're asking me to murder an innocent." She did look up. Okay, one thing was making itself perfectly clear about this girl. She was brutally honest. "And I don't think they would kill it in front of you..." It would probably never make it to her sight living to begin with.

Lot crossed his arms impatiently. He was almost ready to suggest that Kyle go try and snatch Victoria. If he got lucky, Dessa and he would kill each other and that would solve just about every problem.

Victoria was trying to hold back tears as she looked to her stomach. it wasn't the baby's fault... it wasn't it's fault... It didn't deserve it's fate.

" I'm a horrid person."

she said softly, trying not to choke as she actaully turned and walked from both, vampires, and Dessa, right into the woods. She'd prefer to die to the wolves at this point. Then her, and ehr child, something that at least cared for her more then others did right now, could die together.

Dessa followed the woman, tailing behind no more than three paces.

"You're not a horrid person. I think I would like you. I mean... I think you could use some Prozac or something, but I think I would like you if I got to know you."

Lot ran after them, quite promptly climbing up a tree. Why? It made him feel like he had the upper hand even if he didn't. At least they wouldn't have to worry about animals for a little ways. Especially with the added vampiric presence.

It wasn't a request, but it didn't hit that harsh tone of beign a command. It... it was mroe a dying person's request. she wanted to be left alone. she wanted a few moments, to hurt, and to die, without worry.

Kyle growled softly.

" She's going to do something stupid in a minute, especially if that woman keeps pushing her."

"And you think she'll do something less stupid if you drop out of a tree, nab her, then drop dead?" Really.

Dessa just sighed as she cast her eyes to the ground, suddenly seeming a bit well... meeker.

"I'm afraid to."

Victoria stopped, looking to Dessa.

" You hold a power over them, or they wouldn't be leaving you be. I have no power over anyone, even myself. Leave me. You'll be fine."

She said simply, and she actually disappeared into the dense foliage.

Kyle growled.

" I know, I know ... but the problem is, I'm watching my gold fish, flush it's self down the toilet."

Dessa sighed as she stopped, her soft voice carrying on the silent and still air.

"I never said I was afraid for myself." She peered off into the darkness of the leaves. Then she looked up, her eyes actually connecting directly with the two vampires. Obviously she had no problem picking them out of everything.

Lot just frowned deeply, eyes darting between the little teenager and the place where Victoria had disappeared to.

victoria looked back at the woman from where she stood, not caring about herself as she walked deeper into the forest, welcoming it's dangers. It wouldn't take long for the scent of her blood to travel to the animals... then it would only be a matter of time...

Kyle wanted to reached down and open a grave and push the woman into it. it was like a scene out of Buffy or something... this time though, the woman needed to lose.

Dessa looked between Kyle and the huge hole several times, shaking her head.

"You have to be joking." The girl sighed reaching down to her left glove.

"Listen, you want to find her. I want to find her. I don't feel like fighting." She took off the glove, balling her hand into a fist. "Good with you?"

Lot was too irritated at this point to even manage a snicker.

Kyle glanced to Lot, with one of those ' she's slowing us down' kind of looks before glancing off in the direction he could sense the faint hearbeat, growing weaker.... both of them we're.

victoria started to stumble and trip now. The cut on her neck was still bleeding, despite the fact it was wrapped up. she wanted the release of death... for her,... It was selfish, but she didn't, couldn't, and wouldn't live with herself, knowing she had let her child be kill.

But by the time that Kyle had fully expressed his look, Lot had already taken off, weaving through the branches rather fast after Victoria.

And the other news? If Kyle cared to turn around, he would find that Dessa had taken off too.

It was a new moon. The darkness was almost unfathomable tonight.

Victoria got up, and stumbled and tripped so many times this time she fell and tumbled down a near hill, and smacked her head upon an unforgiving oak, causing blood to pour out faster as the darkness she was in, blended with the on that was starting to sweep over her as she could hear sounds approaching.

" ... just let us die."

It was horrid. the day she got confirmation she was pregnant, was the day she wanted to die to save herself, and ehr baby, a much more unhappy death.

Kyle growled and darted off, after the heart beat.

Lot was the one that reached her. His fists clenched and unclenched, his pupils seemed to be going wild. However, even he was having problems seeing.

"Well loli pops." He rolled her over. No, he could smell loads of heavy blood and it had already driven him half out of his mind. But he couldn't really distinguish it from the dirt and things. "I have to tell you that the irony of bleeding to death is rather wasted..."

Dessa stepped up on a rock, looking at the two. Her left hand was still clenched into a fist at her side. She was debating over helping the vampires. It might save the life of an innocent, but...

Victoria could make out the voice, but, should her eyes even not be clouded with blood, and darkness, the situation she was in ( with the knock on the head) was making it more, and more impossible for her to see.

" ... I'm not going for Irony. I won't be a burden... or a disappointment, you'll be free to try again... and I won't have to kill my child."

to say it, to the child's father, hurt, especially considering how she felt towards him. but she knew she was merely another notch on his belt.

Kyle came upon the scene, only seeing so well, swallowing slowly.

" ... there's not much help for her..."

Lot merely rubbed the bridge of his nose, wrapping his fingers against his palm. He had to be doing something right now, something to get his mind of this... off the proximity.

"I am definitely not going to 'try again'." But then again, he had decided that quite a while back. The man flinched, having to blink several times to be able to see after what happened next.

The area in which they were gathered was suddenly illuminated with bright and pure moonlight. It was as though the full moon had settled right over their heads just for their own purposes. Lot didn't have to look up to know what had happened. It was unorthodox.

Dessa had opened her left fist, the one without a glove.

Victoria sighed inwardly, defeated, tears now falling, into the bloody sea upon her face.

" Then, I'm sorry i failed."

She said, obviously having even more issues being able to communicate right now, heart breaking as she realized she was now only heart broken, he was going to give up on finding something that he could be happy with. ... At least another girl wouldn't have to go through the heartache she had.

kyle could tell he wasn't wanted at this moment, but not because he didn't want to be there, slowly, he walked up behind the scene unfolding.

" I've never seen something broken quite like this."

Kyle muttered, soft enough Victoria couldn't hear, but other's could.

Dessa's voice was low, but the tone actually seemed quite vindictive and hateful.

"I have." Two words held quite a lot of accusation, quite a lot of displeasure as she held her hand out, peering at the bloody woman below.

Lot leaned forward to press his mouth against her forehead. The second that his lips touched the bloody wound, his hand shot out and took a chunk out of the nearest tree as he wrenched back. He snapped up to this feet and whirled away a few paces, moving fast in an effort to maintain control. His bloodshot eyes snapped to Kyle.

"** I ** can't ** do ** this." An invitation?!

Victoria didn't respond to the talking now, pretty much gone. Unaware that her master had left, heart ache and darkness taking over everything.

Kyle looked to the pile. He wasn't losing her to something so stupid as this. Kneeling, down beside her, he casually brushed the blood away to see the wound. His mouth was aching, and he was having an issue keeping control, however, he moved to work so that the would healed over, to keep her from bleeding. head, neck, the rest of her body.

Dessa was watching with the closest eye, and as this progressed, she stepped down off the rock. She let the fingers curl in slightly and the moonlight shining from her palm dimmed slightly.

"Well?"

Lot was currently standing by a tree. You could starve a vampire to death. He was getting awful close. And that little blood drop on his lips... it was actually painful. In fact, the man looked like he was about to throw up. However, he refused to kill another one... He looked up at Dessa with an icy glare.
