She asked softly, considering him. their wasn't some weird price on his head now or something, was their? ... She could kill damian, she could.

Ashleigh sighed.

" I'm worried."

she replied to the absent question he'd thought, edging back now. She hadn't meant to intrude.

"It's okay. I understand. I wasn't upset."

Darryn then sighed. Hopefully, she wouldn't freak. The man peeled off his shirt. His entire torso was covered with tracks. It was apparently he had been stabbed repeatedly with something tiny, something... well, judging by the reaction and the size - a toothpick. From the way he was sitting, the letter T was not quite readable from the forming of all the tiny wounds.

Ashleigh's face fell, and as she glanced back over her shoulder, you really had to wonder if she was going to get up and march in. Even worse, it would likely go something to the effect of ' Hi, How are you, Damian? Oh yes, very odd weather we're having. I was told to watch out for angry mates though, i heard their falling from he sky? Oh, you haven't heard that, too bad. it's true' and then he's lose his head. ... She was the sort to do it that way.

She hadn't decided even as she turned back to Darryn, leaning up to kiss his cheek.

" I could have squished him."

Darryn shook his head.

"So could have I, but I didn't want to risk ticking Damian off any more. He's a rather vindictive SOB."

No, it wasn't Damian, but don't think for one second that Damian didn't know about it.

Ashleigh looked him over, leaning up and kissing him, standing up and starting to pace. She could Marry Darryn then and be left alone... She could. That would be nice.

" Your certain you don't want me to kill him?"

Darryn just sat there, his head propped up on his elbow casually. His eyes followed her back and forth as she paced. However, there wasn't a word. He just gave a wry smile in response to her question.

Darryn looked up at her, something in his eyes that added to his smile. Now, he offered words.

"That is really not a fair question. Especially not here."

It would require semi-slander or near-treason of one head or the other.

Darryn looked away, letting his feet dip into the hot spring after taking off his shoes.

I wouldn't mind him dead, except that he doesn't have an heir yet. I wouldn't mind him dead, but I don't want you to have to fight him - he's been challenged before.

It was obvious who had won.

Ashleigh sighed ever so slightly.

I would not lose. This is not my worry.

She stated absently, not explaining why she had such a confidence. But she did look over Darryn now.

But, I do worry about the other fact, as it seems to distress you so. Why worry over being incharge?

Honestly, she hated it, but for obvious reasons.

Darryn lifted his gaze towards her.

Ashleigh... Just look at me.

He held his arms out to either of his sides, palms facing upward - fully submitting himself to judgment. The 'T' was now plainly readable across his torso.

I hate that society. People think poorly of me. I was raised pretty far down the totem pole. I know how to be submissive. Any dominant inkling I might once have had has long since been beaten out of me. I don't know how to lead.

the worst part was watching the concern battle it out for blood boiling rage. She was struggling, she was having an issue pinning where she should be right now.

Darryn shook his head slowly. He didn't say anything else about this. Not right now, at least. The man instead just leaned forward and dove into the hot spring. His head popped out of the water as he moved so that he was lounging in shallower waters.

"Come. Relax."

Ashleigh considered him. Relax he said. Come he said. How was she to do either of those things? there was no way.

Sadly though, she slipped into the waters with him, feeling a few dozen miles away even as she slowly slipped into his arms.

Darryn looked at her for a long moment as she sat in his lap. Then, he reached out and took her hand. He placed it on a more heavily wounded area over the scabs.

"It's not so bad. See?"

He was a weenie a lot of the time, but there was some stronger stuff in Darryn too. She should know that.

"It's only because I was being difficult, and it wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been. You act like it's some great shame or torture... for those of us that down here, it's not. We are used to it."

It hurts more to be shoved from a high place than a low one.

Darryn frowned suddenly.

"I don't know."

His blue eyes shifted to her.

"That's what bugs me about it the most. Everything he's asking and having me do is so obscure. I can't figure out what he's up to."

He paused, shaking his head as he absently drew shapes in the water drops on Ashleigh's shoulder.

"I get the feeling that he's scheming something again... and the last time... it wasn't pretty..."

He shook his head again.

"Once, right after he took over, he completely shattered all of my ball and socket joints. This doesn't really even count on my scale of 'harm'... and he didn't actually do this to me."

ashleigh grumbled something about chains and order, and laws and things. After a second though, she kissed him.

He can be glad he didn't know me then. I'm normally more of a fly off the handle kind of hard to handle brat.

She knew it. However, back then, she was completely enamored with another man.. but she still had this thing about treating people such as Darryn was treated.

Darryn backed down. He hadn't been trying to upstage her or something. He had been merely trying to comfort her. Now, he had no backbone to try anymore.
